Price extreme for powder !!

Was at a gun show over the weekend in Harrisburg, PA. I was shocked at the price of gun powder... 5 pounds of RL 15 $250.00 US !!! Wholly crap !!! Wholesale price is $87.00 from my connection !!! To say the least it sat on the table !!! If you can find RL 15 what prices do you see for 5 pounds ?
Still in sticker shock !!

obvious replies from the buyer side,
from the seller side, no one is forcing you to buy at those prices...
i sold some h1000 for retail to the guy next to me, he put it on his table for close to 200...his choice, i do not care.
why get upset at selling prices ? you are the buyer, you set what gets paid..or do without..your choice

About a year ago 8lb jugs of Varget were on gunbroker for $800 and selling.

I had to think long and hard before I decided to keep my jug.

There was one vendor there who had a fair amount of powder and wanted $185 for a jug of Varget. A little high by PV standards, but when you factor in hazmat and shipping it comes out about the same so I bought one.

Just like 22 ammo when its scarce. Over priced just like powder. Its those who are buying powder, and re-selling the product for a ridiculous cost. So sad!

Not the vendor ha,if I pay say 125.00 for an 8 pounder,is it right to charge 225.00,No period. There is no reason to stick it to each other just because.I know,so dont buy it. Do you want this to turnout to be another rich mans sport like what vendors have done to archery? It is just an insane way of justifying ripping off your neighbors.I have values and as a red blooded American I stick by them. I sell stuff for what I paid for them.

You can't get mad at a free market economy in action - if people are posting at those prices it's because morons are buying it. That's what the market will bear. I'm not going to get mad at someone for participating in a free market. But each seller that makes the decision to jack up their prices for higher profit is also voluntarily taking on the reputational risk - at some point, the supply chain will free up, hoarders will stop hoarding (or be unable to fit more into their garages) and people will remember... and profiteers will be hit accordingly. The free market works both ways... :-) Right now it's a sellers market.

I appreciate a company like PVI and will remember when conditions change to a buyer's market...

+1. Selling stuff for what you paid for it? How in the world would any economy work that way? If you are talking about used items, that doesn't make sense since there are very few items that retain their full value after being used and selling it for what you paid for it would be... gouging? :-)

I would not gouge my fellow shooters...period! If I owned a store or something like that then I would sell at a reasonable cost to my customers but would not gouge people. I have always thought to treat others as you yourself would like to be treated.

I am not in business anymore and I just want to get close to recuperating what I sell.

I too hate paying high prices as much as the next guy, BUT..........in these times of high demand, I know that if I want to play, I am going to have to pay, sometimes through the nose..... but the choice is totally mine.

Many items I refuse to pay the going prices, and others, what I consider my priority areas (those that enable me to keep my sanity), well, I pay the $$$ necessary to play and just try to find the best deal at that time.

I'm self employed, so I understand the need for profit. I also understand the whole buy low and sell high thing. Capitalism at it's finest! BUT, what these price gougers don't understand is that they are doing their fair share to hurt the same sport they make a living from and it is naive of them if they don't or can't see it. Some people will just stop shooting if they cannot afford to do it at a level they enjoy. It's that simple. Less shooters = less shoots etc etc. I have no problem with somone making a living or even a GREAT living by running a retail store selling components. It takes a ton of time, work and sacrifice to build and maintain a business....... but some of these people are just simply out of line and I think they should be called out on it.

there is nothing wrong with that IDEA,,,,
but go look at reality.
you own a store and feed your family from the profits.
you sell primers at a reasonable profit and make 100 a month just on primers.
now there are no primers...how do you make up for the lost income.....????
there is a shortage of everything and you still need to feed your fanily.....
what do you do with less inventory to make the same money as before the crunch ???
you are like most of the rest of us..there is no rich uncle, no big savings account.....

what do you do ???

Exactly, stool, you have to sell what you have to replace it and pay overhead. But there are people that have no store buying and selling just for profit and you are likely to see them at gun shows and selling on the internet. Impatient buyers don't help by actually paying the crazy prices. Local gun shows have people asking 2x the price at walmart(with stuff on the shelf other than 22lr). If the prices at the show are the future for 22lr, I will be buying a 22 Hornet or using trail boss in the 223. It was about a year ago that a co worker of mine went to Recobs and the shelves were empty and they were considering going out of business. I think things have changed in the past 6-8 months and they are still have fair prices
