Price check on a Remington 722 in .222 ?

I've had .222s for a long time, including a high-mileage 722 that continues to shoot very accurately. I've not done a side-by-side comparison, but I think it will outshoot my Sako .222s and they shoot pretty well.

Heavy Barrel ??? The 722 only came with one type 26 Inch Bbl....... For $425 Buy , Buy , Buy !
The 722 in 222 rem came in both sporter weight bbl and heavy bbl. The heavy barrel version is relatively hard to find. I left one go at an auction a few years back. It went for $895 prestine condition and I have come across 3 others at gun shows in the last 10 years. All all 26" barrels.

Thanks for all the replies, he is bringing it over in a couple of days. I have ammo loaded up to try in it.

Being a 722 Fan , I called Remington today ( 1-800-243-9700) and asked about 722 Barrels . According to Jeff at the Consumer Division ( after consulting all the old Literature and Checking with their old Timers ) , Remington only offered the 722 Standard Grade in 222 in one Barrel Length and Size . I happen to live near Ilion and in over 50 years of Gun Shows , I have never seen or heard of the heavy barrel version . Jeff would really like to see info. that you have on ( Serial No. & Pics ) of the one you had . There were 5 Variations of the 722 Quality wise . I have owned many 722=722A's= Standard Grade , and a few 722B's , and a higher Grade I'm researching now . I'm not sure if the Ilion Custom Shop was around 1950ish , but their records are not totally intact so that is a possibility but the Wood in those days would have been truly Spectacular .

Got the rifle today, better than I thought, no blue wear anywhere, original sights, has Burris instead of Leupold bases and rings, with Signature rings. It also has a Timney trigger that is set in ounces, and has the original trigger also. If I look real hard, I can see a couple of light imrpessions on the stock, original stock finish, aluminum buttplate still has theblack on it.Now to get a scope on it.

Koger , you are a lucky man . For some reason , many 722s I have seen had great metal finish , but pretty beat-up Stocks . I'm not saying to do this , but you would be surprised at what nice wood is under that Remington Finish . 722s had two slightly different Stock dimensions : the 222 had the least cheek drop , but it is not a Monte Carlo . If your present Rings are a bit high for you , you can get a lace-on cheek pad . Now comes the hard part : finding the right Reloads !

If the barrel is in good shape I will bet you will like the way it shoots. My wife has an early 700ADL in .222 and it shoots very well. It has not had anything done to it.

Don't laugh...get some cheap Sierra or Speer Spitzers in 50 grains, some H322 and seat .20 off the lands. You may be VERY surprised how they shoot.

Snert that is exactly the same load I have loaded, from previous .222, found 50 of them loaded tonight. I ordered a scope today.

For a nice period correct scope, I'd be tempted to get a Weaver K-10. Might sound crazy, but it would just "look right". jd
