Price check on a Remington 722 in .222 ?

A buddy of mine is thinning his collection, and has up for sale a very, very nice Rem 722 in .222rem. It is in pristine shape, overall, blue is great, wood is very good with a couple of small safe dents in it. Gun was bought by him from the original owner, who use it to shoot chucks out of his hayfield. He got all the original owners empty brass in original boxes, which came up to nearly 120 rounds. He has put 30 rounds thru it, so the barrel is in about as good a shape as you can find, for a used rifle. He asked me $425 for the rifle with Leupold bases and rings on it. Thoughts?

Excellent price in my opinion. Full disclosure I am addicted to .222's.

I'd jump on it and I don't even like Remingtons. However, that is such an important rifle and cartridge in the development of competition shooting, especially benchrest, that it ranks up there with the pre-64 M-70 FWT and the Win 94 in terms of genre defining rifles.

Buy it.. i watched one sale in a estate auction about a month ago bring 500 dollars and it was in about as bad of shape as one can get in.. i couldnt believe it..

And all the 722s I have seen will adjust Safely to lighter Trigger Pull Weights than 700s I have seen.... if that is important to you .

with todays prices why would you even ask is 425 is a good deal. 35 years ago the question would be valid ...maybe

A 722 Remington in .222 Rem was my first real varmint rifle back in the 60's. I had a Weaver K6 on mine. I killed a lot of chucks and crows with that rifle. I wish I had kept it.

A 722 in .222 was my very first centerfire rifle. I’d pay a small fortune to get it back.

You’ll kick yourself later if you pass this one by.
