Prescription Shooting /Everyday Wear Glasses

Another factor to consider is eye relief on the spotting scope. My Decot glasses are wonderful, but they put my eye too far from the scope and make my field of view smaller. I don't use them during rifle matches anymore. I know I should buy the LER eye piece for the scope. That might not matter to you, but I consider it when choosing frames.

Like many who have comment here, when I first went to progressive lenses I had a really hard time, particularly with my peripheral vision. Those first couple pairs I purchased through the optical departments at big-box stores. After getting a diagnosis of the potential for macular degeneration (I was 65 at the time), I returned to an Ophthalmologist for my eye care. For the next set of progressive, I bought the best lenses available, with all of the coating etc., from the Doctor's optical dept. With them, all of my peripheral vision problems disappeared - maybe it was the lenses, maybe the quality of the prescription, maybe some of both, but they are wonderful. Also, thankfully the macular degeneration scare turned out to be false.

Even though I love the progressive lenses, I find I can't shoot with them. I only shoot rifles and mostly off the bench - I can never find the right place on the lense to look through (I also have a prism in my right lense). So foolishly for a long time I shot without glasses, mainly because I could never find a pair of "safety" glasses that were of high enough quality optically, I could shoot with.

This spring after reading series of articles on AS about guns blowing up. I decided it was time to get a real pair of prescription shooting glasses. After reading as much as I could on the subject I decide on Decot Hy-Wyd glasses. Knowing I can't shot with progressives, but also needing to see up close (notes, sight settings and scope turrets), I went with bifocals and shatter-proof lenses. I just sent Decot the prescription I got from my eye doctor and they built them. I have been amazingly pleased with them from the first time I put them on - they are perfect. I have no issues at all shooting with them and now have great peace of mind, with regard to my eye safety. I wish I had done this years ago.
