Premium 22LR Hunting Rifle

You must have lots of disposable income like me, I owned 80 class 3 machine guns till I tired of them , moved em down the road and bought a house that sits in the middle of a 5000 acre game sanctuary. Nevertheless a beautiful collection, many I had,but the Tikka is my go to.

As is not uncommon with internet forums part of the statement was left out so that it appeared to be something that wasn't said, it's either that or poor reading comprehension. I never said or implied that I owned them all at the same time.

this is what I posted - "I have owned 4 Kimber of Oregon, 3 Cooper 57M sporters, 2 Tikka T1x, 5 Remington 541, 6 Anschutz sporters (4 ea. 1700 series and 3 ea. 1400 series), 1 Sako P94S sporter, 1 Winchester 52B sporter, and numerous other 22 rimfires of various grades."

OP post quote - "I’ve had the urge to buy a high quality 22LR. My Uncle has a Kimber 82 with a fluted barrel and beautiful walnut stock and that rifle is what got me wanting a nice rimfire for myself."

The OP indicates that he is interested in a "high qualilty 22 LR" the point of listing 22's I have owned was to let him know that I had experience with a great many 22's and was basing my recommendations on actual experience/ownership.

I have been at this game a long time and have owned 22 rimfires from the most basic, I started with a Mossberg 142A, and the most expensive one I owned was a Cooper Western Classic.

I am currently down to 1 CZ 452, 1 CZ 457, 1 Tikka T1X.

give me your thoughts and opinions on those rifles please.
I do shoot 22 LR, but shoot a lot more 17 HMR/M2 these days. I'll comment on the 17 calibers.

I had an Annie 1717D HB, and 2 Cooper 57 LVM's in 17 HMR. Wound up selling all three because my CZ 455 with a Lilja barrel out shot them. If you want something to look at, the Kimber and the Coopers may be what you want. I prefer the CZ 457 over the 455's. Here is an relatively inexpensive CZ 457 American that I refinished the stock on and put a Lilja 17 M2 barrel on. Was very deadly on prairie dogs this year.

Prettier Cooper I sold.

Guess that I am not as lucky as you because I don't live in a 5000 acre game sanctuary but I do have a few animals in my yard from time to time

jepp2 - some of the 457's have great wood under that muddy finish, your is nice

I really live the wood on the Cooper LVT, that is one of my favorite type of wood figure.

The biggest problem I have is that sometimes I have to wait for the animals to move so that I can shoot from my deck

But, I can go to the front deck and wait for them leave
You get what God gives and loans you, as this is all temporarily on loan. Considering where I live there's plenty to love , and plenty of game. When I get bored here there's the 50 acres in Pole Bridge Montana, also temporarily on loan, bear, elk ,moose, wolves ,muleys, trout etc. happy to see what you have and enjoy remember it's only temporary.

The T1x comes in a very plain synthetic stock, which keeps the price down on an otherwise outstanding rifle.

Tikka also sells the T3x Hunter centerfire rifles, in a very nice walnut stock. Sometimes you can find a take-off stock for a reasonable price.

I happened to have a used T3 Hunter stock that was largely wasted on my deer rifle.

Transplanting it to my T1x took about 20-30 minutes. It was a little tight in the mag well and there was a small plastic rod on the trigger guard that needed to be trimmed. The action has the same footprint as the centerfire rifles.

The deer rifle got its original T3 Lite stock back, and the T1x stock is still sitting in a closet gathering dust. Never used.

It takes the T1x up a few notches in curb appeal.

Very nice. Really like the non-slip butt plate.

One of the only complaints of my T1X is that plastic butt plate which tends to slip around in the shoulder.

Skate board tape is your friend. I put some on the hard plastic butt plate of my Annie, the Houge wood grips of my Colt Diamondback, and on my P210 plastic service grips. World of difference. Why isn't stippling these more popular?

My Tikka T1x , how much better than any other rifle shoot in a hunting scenario than this,@ 50 yards under controlled environment? Only a hunting rifle , this was shot with Lapua super long range. Good enough to drop a squirrel, out to 100, or a coyote with a head shot. Five shots there, yote between the eyes perfectly at 100 yards. If any other rifle can significantly outdo this let me hear about it.
Great shooting! Like I said I love my T1X, but it's not the caliber of rifle the Anschutz is, and I also mentioned, for the price point it isn't expected to be. IMO it's the best rifle in its price range and better than some more expensive rifles.

Pick up some A-17 targets and give them a go, there is ten bulls and one sighter bull, one shot per bull for a possible score of 100.

I am another that would vote for the Tikka T1X for a hunting rifle. The Tikka is not so picky about the ammo it shoots. I have two CZ 452 Americans, which likes the SK Rifle Match. Get a hunting rifle and then start thinking about investing in a nice benchrest rifle

Good advice if you do both, i've been a hunter since age 6 , no benchrest for me.

You started your post saying that you were looking for a "hunting rifle". I interpret that as meaning that you don't want a museum piece, a highly competitive bench rest rifle, or a collector piece.
If you're going to be out and knocking about you might want to look at a 77/22 in stainless with a synthetic stock. For sure you will then own a rifle that is tough as nails.
My 77/22 was built in 1986. Other than some sear work and a trigger shoe it is completely stock with its wood stock and blue barrel. With Blazer ammo it shoots 5/16" (outside to outside) from 50 yards with its older Tasco World Class 6-24 scope.
The 77/22 is not the least expensive .22 rifle out there, but they are the toughest AND, there are several gunsmiths out there who can really fine tune one if needed. Randy at CPC is one of the best. There is no prestige that comes with owning a 77/22, but it's a durable rifle, and it was made in America~!

At the ARA Factory class Nationals this year the rifles used were 68% CZ 457, 18% Bergara B14, 7% Tikka T1X, 2% Savage B-22. The top ten had 5 CZ's, 4 Bergaras, and 1 Tikka.

I am sort of surprised that no one has mentioned the Bergara B14. With it's Remington 700 footprint it is open to all sorts of customization as far as stocks and triggers. The only downside is it's weight of 9 pounds, compared to a CZ American or T1X's 6 pounds

5/16"(.312") outside to outside??? 50 yards with Blazers?? That is less than half of the NBRSA world record agg.......

What are your guys thoughts on the Kimber K22 rifles like the Hunter Silhouette? I talked to my Uncle and his is a Kimber Hunter Silhouette and I adore that rifle. I really like the looks of it with the walnut stock, Model 70 style safety, and fluted barrel. His shoots really well from what I remember. Thanks for the input!
