Präzipress vs. Area 419 Turret Press

The type of lube and how even you apply it is just as important if not more so than your press. For BR sized cases the Hood press gives me around a .0005" bump consistency. I could do better if I applied lube more consistently. I just use my fingers and sizing wax. I have a few buddies with a Prazi. Maybe one day I can compare the two. Im not sure improving past .0005" would show on target. But when I get serious I will sort my record rounds to exactly the same bumps and bullet oal. The others are sighters.

I have a 419 set up across the table for my rock Chucker that I’ve had for 30+ years. It’s a nice press for sure and I understand someone wanting to use nice equipment, I have some of that in me. Oddly enough I keep using the RC 90% of the time, it’s like talking to an old friend, sentimental attachment I guess. It’s produces very capable ammo. Nothing wrong with the latest greatest, nothing wrong with basic equipment that has served a guy for decades.

I don’t shoot competition but we do a lot of long range shooting, for fun more than anything. To each their own. We’re spoiled with the amount of choices we have between, presses, dies, powder dispensers, measuring tools and on and on and on…. Compare today’s average loading bench with that of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and so forth and the evolution of the last 20 years is pretty crazy. Optics are another good example of that, we are spoiled.

I agree with every thing that you have said about the Prazi presses, they are fantastic pieces of equipment. I think that you will eventually find as I did a year ago that 3 simply will not allow you to operate efficiently. I finally decided that I needed a 4th press and now that I have loaded with all four on the bench, it makes all the difference in the world. I don't see how I could have continued with just 3.

“certain ppl will go the extra mile to justify reloading using subpar tools“
Good marketing line! I guess I have to buy that new $600 priming gadget so I’m not using “sub par tools”……..until they come out with a thousand dollar tool.

Agreed. I bought an A4 in 1976 to load my pre-64 300 Magnum 180gr ammunition on. A hundred dollars. Five rounds under half an inch consistently at 100 yards. Forty-nine years and three thousand-plus rounds later, it still does. All the big Black Powder and British cartridges, as accurate as I can hold at hunting yardages... Before that, an old Easton single stage press.

Here’s what makes me happy, these days. I buy a nice old gun, do some load work up and testing to find what it likes. If I can get it to shoot, it’s a win. I’m using my old Rockchucker and a Parker tuned scale with RCBS or Redding dies.

I’d like to see shoulder set back variations show up on a target.

@quest450
Man I love that press, I have one of those Hood presses on my radar. Will it make any better ammo ?
Hell I don’t know but it sure would look good trying.

There is a big difference between need and want. I am personally very happy that there are individuals who will continue to push boundaries and strive to build the better mouse trap , so to speak. IMHO we all benefit in the long haul. In passing one more thing for thought. It would appear G od gave us all a brain to utilize in thinking and making decisions for ourselves. Gentlemen good shooting and may you them all in the X ring.

There is something pleasing and soothing about operating a smooth, precision machined piece of equipment. It looks good, it feels good, it makes you happy. So if someone buys a high end press, let's be happy for him.
Yep,
A bit like whiskey and women.
Any of them will get the job done, but there is real pleasure in a nice bottle of smooth whiskey, and the company of a fine woman…
