Modding the Area 419 Zero Press for less flex

So yes, show me a press, full length sizing that doesn’t flex, with an indicator.

That comes down to how much flex is flex, and when is flex flex ?

Is it flex if you can measure it, but can't see it ? Is it flex when you can feel it ? Is it only flex if you can see it ?

Nobody can dispute there is flex in the absolute sense as a result of the tension / compression / expansion of metal under load.

The same way that the piston rod of a car engine compresses under the force of ignition - it's irrelevant to the driving of the car. Wether that piston rod flexes one micron or three changes nothing about how the car drives.

As a reloader, flex is observable .

As an engineer, flex is measurable.

I'm just a reloader. If I see or feel a press flex, I won't use it to size my rifle brass.

What was the word you used earlier? Rubbish?

That word salad reminds me of bill clinton.

“What does the word IS, mean”.

I think we can all agree beauty is in the eye of the beholder as is flex. How much is too much is an individual opinion and depends upon the process they use.

I size cheytac brass on mine with no issues whatsoever. My consistency could not literally get any better (+/- 0.0005”)

something tells me the press isn’t the problem here.

and i see the naysayers of this press are still alive and well lol

That’s impressive. Do you run the shell holder firmly to the die using different height shellholders? Or is there a gap between your die and shellholder at full stroke? Wonder what force is on the handle to fullsize a cheytac?

unfortunately i cannot use my zero shellholder system since it only goes up to magnum bolt face, so im using the rcbs shellholder.

i have mine set up for a hard stop against the shellholder with slight “cam over”. I had the luxury of doing this since my die uses a neck/shoulder bushing and is micrometer adjustable.

i think you’d be surprised at the sizing force, it really isn’t much more than any other large magnum cartridge.

You are just playing with words.

You understand exactly the context and meaning.

A press that flexes is still rubbish. Not to say useless. A rubbish press can prime, seat bullets and size handgun brass very well.

Still waiting for a video of this press that doesn’t flex. Put an indicator on it.

I’m firmly in the camp that believes the die is doing the actual work. The press is just there to help.

I use a cheap RCBS Partner press for loading at the range. It works just fine. I’m sure it flexes like crazy, yet the brass is consistent and runout is on the south side of .001 with this custom Newlon die.

The Zero Press doesn’t allow camover but I get you mean you set the die to make contact with shellholder at full stroke plus “a little extra”. This is same as I do. The “extra” ensures even the stiff cases get fully pushed into the die.

thats why i put “camover” in quotations lol.
