PPC with diff shoulder angles?

Got curious in my bores state the other day...

Anyone ever AI or sharpen the shoulder on a PPC to gain more capacity? I mean it shoots as is, but curious if anyones tinkered and found anything...

I think the case was made about 16K longer and renamed 6 Grendel....;)

Regards
Rick
Not quite right, Rick. A straight 6 Grendel shares the same shoulder and with a PPC but the shoulder is .070" further forward. Overall length is nominally the same, so the Grendel neck is shorter than the PPC. Everything else is basically the same. Small primer, flash holes and Lapua brass. It just has to be necked down from 6.5 to 6mm...no fire forming per se.

Here's a side by side pic for comparison. IIRC, volumetric difference is about 4% more for the Grendel.

The shoulder angle, body taper, and volume is what makes it magic. Change any of them and it becomes any other cartridge
We all see lot to lot variations in powder. Any chance changing the case by a small amount can optimize the case to those powder lots? Just take lot 10 of LT32 for example...Virtually no one shoots it because it's too bulky, can't get enough in the case. That's the hair we're splitting.

What do you mean by "toobulky" , I've not had a problem with it.

I'm speaking of lot 10 vs lot 15 of lt32. Both can shoot just fine but I just dumped several charges of both, at the same setting on the powder measure. The lot 10 averaged right at .4 tenths lighter than the 15. Not a lot but when you're loading at the top end and out of case, that's enough to matter. In my case, it is enough to make it near impossible to handle the loaded case without spilling it everywhere. Some people go as far as using an electric tooth brush to settle the powder in each case. I really prefer to not do all that. Lol!

I've shot 50 or so pounds of lot10 over last few years no issue getting enough in the case standard ppc
Usually 28.8 to 29.3 shoots well
Nuttin wrong with that. Glad its working for you Tim.
I came across the difference while loading for a match. I loaded several before I had realised I picked up the lot 10. The cases were too full to handle, dumping as I always do. I checked the weights several times. It took a minute for me to realise what I had done and why my measure needed an adjustment when I started. Then it dawned on me and sure enough, I was loading lot 10.
I went ahead and finished 50 rounds of it and they shot very well. I shot a 263 the next day at 100. Missed my very first shot and hit 23 in a row after that. Itll shoot.

I would echo this. When the PPC was in development ever shoulder angle was test. I think even in 1d increments. 30D was the magic number.

Here is a fraction of what's been done in improved shoulder versions:

PPCs Imp.jpg

Left to right: 17 PPC Imp. 40°, 20 PPC Short .150" Imp. 40°, 20 PPC Imp. 40°, 22 Waldog 35° (not the 30° Waldog version), std. 6 PPC,
6-40 Tyger, 6-40 Dune, 6mm HAWK (double radius shoulder similar to a Weatherby)
