PAST recoil shoulder pad?

Looking to tame the recoil on 2 bench guns I have. Anyone ever use these pads? Did they help at all? Any other suggestions to reduce recoil? They aren't comp guns so anything is fine. I need shoulder surgery/bicep tendonesis, but I'm putting it off as long as I can.

Thanks fellas!
Get a Witt Machine bolt on brake. .You can put it on or dont use it about 100 bucks. Tommy Mc. Can not use for comp. It will calm a beast.

Just an FYI, a recoil pad only transfers the recoil, it doesn't absorb it, be it a gel or Kick-Ezz style pad. If you want to reduce felt recoil it you need to use a system that does exactly that, absorb's recoil. Alot of people use the ISIS style system, and others, to DAMPEN the recoil, you still absorb it in your sholder/body. I've seen styles in my years in the trade, there's a big difference in absoring and transfering felt recoil. My 2cents.

The PAST is some form of high density foam or whatever material, that works like any other pad but also by spreading out the area the gun pushes against. Perception is all that matters and they greatly reduce the perceived recoil, no matter how they do it. True, they do nothing to change the amount of recoil the gun has, ala a brake but the difference in how it feels is hugely different. I bought one years ago, mainly for sighting in big caliber hunting rifles and more so, patterning 3.5" 12ga turkey shotguns. When I did full time gunsmithing, I did a lot of that type of work. That pad was a life saver imho.

People call them sissy pads and such. I call it smart to utilize what's available to make your job easier and you more proficient at it. For BR rifles, they take the edge off of the 30's etc where recoil isn't bad but the cumulative affect over 200 rounds is considerable. There's no upside to recoil and it doesn't make one tough to take a pounding unnecessarily. It does, take away a bit of feel if you like to set up just touching the butt with your shoulder but not by much. Very workable once ya get used to it. If I had just been through a surgery or similar, I would most certainly not hesitate to use one.

I have and use both the regular and the magnum. In the summer with a T shirt on shooting my 7 mag, it is amazing how they change what is a sharp jab to something you don't even notice. Highly recommended. With good plugs and a set of muffs over them, you think you are shooting a 22 LR.

I got a shoulder harness at Cabela's years ago when I shot the 308's a lot. For me, it definitely made a difference in felt recoil. I got the light harness version which for me, fitted my shoulder very well.

Another benefit that I didn't imagine was that the pad on the harness gave me a more uniform and non- slip surface on the shoulder which help produce better shoulder position consistency.

I am not a gadget guy but sometimes one comes along that really works. They are not that expensive so I would definitely try one.

I guess recoil sensitivity is real, a lot of trap shooters had to go to a release trigger because of it.
Absolutely. The shoulder is the least of the trouble too. Cheek slap is 10 times worse. Gives me a headache the remainder of the day. Oddly, cheek slap is common knowledge for shotgunners. I don't think I have ever heard it mentioned for rifles.

that awesome! My barrel is a 1.25 straight. I'm thinking of putting a brake on it, but not sure who even makes that diameter, other than harrels.
American Precision Arms makes a Fat Bastard that will work with a 1.25” bbl. Excellent at reducing the recoil, and seeing trace/impacts on the Gen 3 versions.
