Powder scales question/ BR & F Class only

theoretically if you are doing your load workup correctly a variance of .1 either way on the charge will not matter. I have a old Lyman M5 beam, a $20 Amazon Gem 20, and a A&D 120 FXi on my bench and use a throw then finger trickle with the electronics and regular trickler on the beam. All three work equally well but I normally use the A&D when loading 50 - 75 rounds. I am thinking about going with the auto trickler for my A&D for Christmas, not because I need it but because I want it

the standard for PRECISION in the 2 mentioned disciplines are not even close.
what works in f class would typically not make it in benchrest.
an f class "x" has aprox SEVEN times the area of a benchrest x at 600 yards.

simply put..i disagree.
In theory or on paper.

I would like to hear from some of the seasoned guys on this. My guess is that even shooting long distance, Bart, Tom and some of the other seasoned guys don’t go to a match shooting loads that are tune sensitive to a .1 variance. Of course, that’s my theory.

So your not in need of a scale your basically just stirring a pot of burnt beans.

No. Not stirring the pot.

I am looking for a consensus from a group of shooters who I consider the experts in the field, and the type, brand, and why you use them. This is to glean info for another shooters website so as I could refer them to this forum. It is comprised of mostly causal but not novice ammo loaders.

As for me. I am very well versed in the art of crafting precision ammo.

I can post spreadsheets of my load testing if you like. Why do you think long range shooters do ladder tests and shoot over chronys to find flat spots in the velocity curve ? I like to load to plus or minus .02 gns when testing a new powder/bullet but have shot many a match and practice session with loads thrown straight from my old RCBS Chargemaster 1500 if I got lazy and waited till 8PM the night before the match to load

I had one .260 Rem barrel where anywhere between 40.3 and 40.6 grains of H4350 had a extreme spread of 6 FPS using 140 Nosler CC's. I almost cried when that barrel finally lost it's edge

And F-Class shooters fire 20+ rounds over the course of up to 20-30 minutes, where wind is a huge factor, as opposed to machine-gunning groups down as fast as possible. You might be very surprised at the levels to which F-Class reloaders go these days, so please don't make this thread about one discipline versus another. Just don't.

Then perhaps a poll would be in order?

Gravity is not your friend, unless you are wanting to weigh powder in an accurate, repeatable manner. It never drifts and is the same today, tomorrow, next year, etc... If you want to combine the most reliable method of weighing consistent powder charges with electronic assistance then the Prometheus might be just the ticket.

i stole this pic from a guy on long range. it shows a rifle GOING OUT OF TUNE AS THE CHARGE CHANGES 0.1 GRAIN at a time. just because you/your rifle/shooting discipline is not this tight it does not others are not.

do not get mad at me if you ask a question that has poor parameters.
bench rest shooting goes from 100 yards to 1000 yards, the short range is 1-300 and is nowhere near the long range at 600/1000. plus there is group and score shooting, which is another split.
f class is short range and long range so there is a split there. and as I pointed out the targets are way diff in size, as you pointed out the time and shot count is way diff. 5 and 10 in 7 min vs 20 in 20.
asking about loading tools for such diverse endeavors will generate a varieity of answers that maybe correct at some point and time, but if not defined in the given answer, pretty much useless..
ask a specific question about a single discipline, just my suggestion.

If I were that guy I would find a new powder, bullet, seating depth combo. I am just a amateur at this but have found a decent velocity flat spot for every barrel I have owned. Sometimes I had to try a couple of different powders to find the right combo but with a bit of persistence I have always found one. On that barrel I mentioned in a earlier post when I replaced it with the same brand, twist, and length. The replacement would not shoot 140 gn bullets of any flavor worth a damn, but loved Berger 130, and 123 SMKS with 4831 SC

On a different note yesterday I loaded 50 rounds of 6BR and instead of using my Lyman 55 throw and weighing on the A&D I decided to use my Chargemaster 1500 and then checking on the A&D. I was honestly surprised at it's accuracy. I did not record them but but of 50 rounds only 1 or 2 were off more than a couple of tenths
