Powder Scale Reccommendations

Rocketvapor,
so with all this high definition sorting, I am curious what does ur ES and SD’s look like.

I ask because I am curious how much the rifle bbl internal finish and the bullets themselves contribute to these variations?

what if I used a single case, loaded to ur level of precision, and fired 10 shots what the ES and SD would be?

Bob

Well, I don't get those 2 or 3fps SDs some do.
Since I have the time I want to eliminate any unknown variable I can.
With the 22N and SB6.5 I get about 12 to 15 fps per 0.1 grain of powder in same case weight, bullet weight, and primer.
I ran a small CCI450 primer weight test with 10 medium weight primers 5 heavy 5 light and 10 more medium weight. I could CLEARLY see velocity and 600yd elevation.
Here's the 5 heavy, 5 light primers @ 600
Odd # shots were light, even were heavy.

9's tomorrow will not be for lack of precision :)
- will repeat primer test next week after the match.
Here's 30 rounds the wife shot at 600 practice session in Feb. I hope to improve on this.

She probably came up a couple clicks (.25 MOA) between 2 and 3

If precision can eliminate a 9 or two for us, I'll be happy

I bet sorting Primers, cases, bullets with a beam scale would even be slower than my digital on the low range :)
Then I’ll qualify my comment. I’m just a casual shooter. I don’t compete and I’ve never weighed a primer. I use Lapua brass for my “ high accuracy” bench guns but I’ve not sorted the cases by weight.

We don weigh no stinkin primers !!

Which cheaper scales did you try?

After an economy digital scale I went to the Sartorios 503 and an electric trickler. Not the fastest setup but it weights to the .001gr.
Purchased the FX120 and V4 system. I compared it to my present scale and concluded the fidelity of the FX and V4 were not as good as what I was doing. It was faster but that was all.
The smaller the case (6BR) the more variations show up on the target.

I agree. Small variations do show up more on small cases.
Wife and I are shooting 22 Nosler, about 31 to 32 gr, 0.02 grains would be good enough (better than 0.1%)

There's a lot of good/great shooters (I'm not one) that don't sort cases, bullets or primers and rely on a automated milligram scale for their reloading. Me, I want to trim every unknown.

Not sure I could do things like sort primers with a milligram scale like the FX.
Now if they made an automatic primer and bullet feeder, that would be a time saver :)
