I have....springer airguns. No reloading, no cleaning and .03 a shoot for good pellets. With a good gun at 25 yds its just like shooting a 6ppc at 100yds. It seems the shooting group does not understand Supply and Demand along with having little self discipline. To me it's not about can I afford it it's about .....if you think you can bend me over you picked the wrong guy.

I'd rather shoot less than something different. My shooting buddy and I hit the range, get some BBQ, and share some stories of the work week. It gets me out of the house and focusing on something different. I can continue to have fun tinkering on loads, just at a slower rate.

These days I shoot primarily 223 Rem bolt rifles. I get about 290 loads out of 1 lbs. container of powder.

But like others, this hobby is pushing the envelope on affordability. The local shop I've been using for 30 years had some Nosler 55 BT's which I really like and have used for a long time with great success. But the price was $33 for a box of 100. I needed them so I took the plunge. By rationing my shooting to 10 rounds a range session I can get 10 range sessions. For me, just getting out of the house and getting my mind on something different as "rijndael" posted has value.

I found 8 lbs of Vhitavouri 555 in stock, but after hazmat fees and shipping it was over $400. I passed.

You can actually find small rifle primers cheaper on Gun broker right now that at some of the major online vendors. Talk about the world turned upside down. LOL

The people on gunbroker are regular dealers all over the country f'in everyone. I know a dealer here that buys primers from local guys that have way too many and he sells them on gb. He usually makes $75 on each sale.

hodgdon 209 for inline ML was 40.00 for 10 oz. ,now 50.00 for 8 oz. .....tell me who is greedy

It's interesting that some are defaulting to the cause being greed and not everything being more expensive, including the cost of shipping container fees. Those are up almost 50% in the past year.

The elevated prices for shooting components will start to drop when the price of steel, welding wire, tooling, insurance, electricity, shipping and other major components that are required at my Shop start to drop.

My fixed pension from 1999 has long suffered from inflation. Worth maybe 1/2 of what it was then, I now can only do 1/2 of what I did.

Maybe less. It is a bummer when you outlive your money. Of course, the options could be worse.

QUICK SUMMARY: In 2023, we anticipate powder availability to return to Pre-COVID conditions. Our powders will be readily available on dealer shelves and for purchase on our website. While demand has remained at a record high for now nearly 3 years, we look forward to closing the gap between demand and supply and thank you for your patience.

WILL ALL YOUR POWDERS BE READILY AVAILABLE?

While there are some exceptions such as our Enduron and Trail Boss powders, the majority of our powders will be easily located via various retailers.

WHY CAN’T HODGDON MAKE MORE POWDER?

We wish it were that simple - what we have experienced since 2020 is a demand issue and not a supply issue. The reality is we are doing everything possible to maximize shipments to our customers, including running overtime in production, packaging and shipping areas and working with our shipping partners to add new inbound and outbound shipping options. During the past 3 years, we broke record after record for powder shipments. We learned what worked best in terms of distribution and will continue to maximize all efforts to maintain this high level of shipping.

WILL HODGDON BUILD ANOTHER PLANT TO KEEP UP WITH FUTURE SPIKES IN DEMAND?

A new powder production facility would require an investment far beyond our finances and no financial institution would finance this type of building project. While the past 3 years of demand appears to be different from demand spikes in the last 20 years, the “normal” powder demand for the U.S. would not support an additional manufacturing plant.

WHY IS HODGDON SELLING POWDER TO AMMUNITION MANUFACTURERS?

Our focus is the handloading enthusiast. Yes, we sell some powder to strategic, mostly smaller ammunition manufacturers, but that is a small part of our business. The heart of our business is smokeless powder for the handloading enthusiast. Every day, we receive calls from potential OEM customers who are looking for powder to load in ammunition. Every day, we politely decline this new business so we can focus on our long-term customers and sales channels and most importantly, our costumers who have supported us for decades.
