Powder for a 308 Win

One of the effects of the lack of availability is that lots of folks are experimenting with something other than Varget, and rediscovering that there are lots of powders that work really well in a 308.

Absolute truth. There are many medium rate powders that work very well in .308. I used them before there was a Varget.

I'll stand out of the pack - I've been using CFE 223 for 145-155 grain bullets for close to a year now. Sure it is just as hard as anything else to find, but when I found some, I bought it. Keep in mind my experience is with mid-range weight bullets in 308, not the super light bullets down to 125, ect.

Willyp,
FWIW, some lots of current LC M80 (147gr fmj) ammo is fueled by WC846 which is VERY like BLC(2)... varget, 4895, 4064 (meters like crud), tac (bit fast) are all great choices IMHO. for your bullet weights though RL15 the surplus stuff, would be my first choice. Good luck to you on your choices. As mentioned before by others consider lever revolution!!! 3rd gen shooting has 6- 8lbs in stock last I checked.
cheers,
Doc

P.S.you did not ask but if you decide to go heavy (185+) consider IMR4320 ;)

8208 XBR, Varget, N135-140, H-335, BLC-2, IMR 3031 IMR 4895, Win 748. All of these powders with different rifles and bullet weights will/can/have produced excellent results in the various 308s I've had in the 110-168gr weights.
