Powder choice for 6.5x47 130-140gr bullet

Putting together a 6.5x47

28" barrel trued rem action

8 twist no neck turn .166 freebore barrel

Shooting 130-140gr bullets

What seems to be the best powder choice for these

I have 3lb of h4350 on hand
Also varget and r15 on hand
What are good other options

Also I have 200 140vld bullets so I'll prolly try them first

You could NOT do better than H4350, especially with the 140 VLD's.. The 130's will work well with H4350 BUT maybe (and only after testing will you know) better served with RL-15... But H4350 will work very well with the 130's..

That's what I'm gathering with the 140s 39.5-41gr h4350 is what most have I'll have to load a test of course

Not set on bullet how does the 130 class compare to 140 class bullets

You will drift somewhat more with the 130's BUT not by A LOT! Make ACCURACY the deciding factor, not B.C.

Oh I agree I'll be shooting 600//1000 with it

Seems like most shoot 130//140 gr bullets even tho a lot of info on the 123gr

I just shot a 600 yard match this past Sunday with a 6.5 x 47, shooting 123 Scenars. We had a Southwest wind that was switching. My score was not "up to par" and my "X" count was in the toilet! I can't completely blame the light pills. However, they were noticeably "moved" by the wind. If you are going to use it at 1000 yards, you will REALLY want to work with the 140 VLD's.

I use RL-17 with 140 amax...chono at 3006 vel es 12 primers still tight..28" brux HV 1-8..YMMV start low ..

My rifles like to run H4350 with the 140 Hybrids and Varget with the 130 VLDs. Both prefer the Hybrids with a little jump at speeds between 2750 fps and 2800 fps.

H4350 for sure. I couldn't get the 140s to work in my rifle but the Berger 130 VLD were excellent. Lapua Scenar L 136gr is another excellent option.

I have almost the same set up and it shoots 130&140s great. I use h4350 for both & use same charge but it loves 140 berger hybreds and I shoot them out to 1500 yds. the funny thing is gun hates imr-4350. we have a 8in plate @ 800yds and anyone can hit it everytime as fast as they can shoot unless the wind gets to crazy.

If you're not opposed to using double based powders , give VV N-550 a try.

Outstanding velocity , gives good case fill ratio and burns clean ( hot but clean) some say they have had problems with the loads not being temp stable but in my case i'm tuning the load for conditions anyway.

H4350, Varget, and IMR8208 are the standards... IMR8208 with 107gr-130gr bullets, some see higher max velocities with IMR8208 compared to Varget... The new Enduron powders are interesting as well...

I shoot the 130 VLD and 41 grs H4350 and get 2980 from 28 inch Bartlien 5R 8 twist,,some reason it likes the WW WSR primer the best also with ES in single digits and SDs almost zero,,

my 6.5x47 rifleis in an AICS 1.5 chassis and shooting with PNW match sights just for kicks,,it is a blast shooting 15 inch gongs at 1,000 yards with sights,,

H4350 is absolutely the way to go. I shoot a stout load of it behind the 130 VLD's and it is an incredibly accurate load. 3010 fps out of a 28" Krieger. Accuracy holds in the sub .25moa out to 600 (furthest i have shot it yet). My only regret in getting a 6.5x47 Lapua is that I didn't get it sooner than now! Goodluck and enjoy.

Thanks guys I do have h4350 and varget so I'll be using those first
Have most of parts to put rifle together so it won't be long
Just got to find some brass

For brass, I take the current 7-08 brass on the shelf and simply run it through the 260 F/L sizing die. Currently working with Hornady. Have also used Winchester with success. You could do the same with .243, but some say there's a risk of creating donuts.

All shooting/handloading is on the back burner while I finish selling my home in the Finger Lakes (NY) and move into my newly purchased home in AZ.
