postal money orders

Alot of people want postal money orders, But from what I can tell once you send the money order what are my options if it does not come or is not what I bought what can I do at that point. Any thought will help thank you

Same as cashiers check. I have spoken to person on the phone got more pictures of item. I did this when seller didn’t have any feedback. At same time I was trying to build my own.
I take time to give people feedback and have also had people look at mine in past history when buying something by from them

postal money orders are used because you can claim postal fraud if your wronged and if not cashed or lost in a certain amount of time you can get a refund....also you can cash at post office so your wife dont see a check go through the bank.......

Our post office usually will cash a $200 PMO same day, more than that it will be next day (they need to order cash in).
My bank cashes them also.

Edit to add..... When going to the bank I just have them deposit it.

As the buyer sending a postal money order as payment your protection from a scam is pretty slim. The postal inspector doesn't care about small stuff. You would have to file a report with your local police to start.

For a high dollar item I would recommend an escrow service such as guntab.

Postal money orders are often faked, copied and when you "deposit" it in your bank and then send the item bought, in a few days youmight be quite angry to find out that your bank then lets you know your deposited MO is a fake and YOU are out the money, cause it never went in your account.
The post office will not honor any complaints...the local PD will have no real way to find or prosecute the offender who is in another jurisdiction. If your MO goes missing good luck getting your $$ back.

I used to think an MO was the way to go. Now I won't touch one with your fingers!

I would rather take a personal check and give it a ten day wait for it to clear and to be sure its not reversed.
Or electronic payment. Or cash.

My bank takes a moment to call a number they have on hand to confirm that it is real before cashing. I appreciate it, it protects them and me......They are all I have ever sent for person-to-person purchases.

Regards
Rick

All methods have issues.
USPS Mo: good because federal mail fraud backs you up. Bad because almost nobody does anything about it. And washed money orders do exist but if you call and verify the money order before cashing that should foil it.
Electronic payments: good because instant and the money is real. Bad because they can shut you down for any reason at any time and seize the balance. That’s why I never keep a balance in mine, and I don’t use PayPal because they shut me down for no reason and I think their requirements to unlock my account are unreasonable.
Personal check: good but slow.
Cashiers check: good and you can call the bank using their main phone number (not a number printed on the check) and do a little verification.
I have not tried an escrow service but I’m willing to try.

I have taken a MO Back to the Post Office after a large transaction did not happen with no problem getting my money back.

I have had no issues with USPS MO. But I utilize a phone call and have the seller text me an additional picture that I choose unless it is someone with excellent reviews.

I always suggest a PO MO with my sales

Or if more convenient a personal CK works too

They clear your bank inside 3 days in most cases

Have never had any issues

I don't like Postal Money Orders for the same reason I don't like USPS. They are unreliable.
There have been counterfeit USPS MO's in the past and I have not been able to cash any USPS MO at the PO in many attempts. They always use the excuse they don't have enough cash in the drawer to cash it-no matter how small an amount of the MO.
Plus, I once had a very valid USPS MO confiscated by the local Postmaster saying it was counterfeit and it took 24 hours and proof from the sender and the PO it was purchased from to get it back. Then (again) the PO refused to cash it!
I will use a certified check or personal check but if you want PP F&F or USPS MO then we are not doing business.
