Possible Change to Optics Sale AREA -- Members ONLY?

Forum Boss,

Food for thought.

Silver and Gold contributors can sell for free.
Non-Contributor members can sell for a nominal fees, Just like classifies adds use to be in the papers.
Possibly, Items up to $100.00 free.
Single Item $101-$300.00 costs $5.00.
Item $301 and up costs $10.00.
Several Items Listed @ a time can be listed for the Total Value, Ie... up to $300 costs $5.00, $301 and over costs $10.00. All Fees payable via Pay Pal.

I see folks here who like you are not paying members, selling items, sometimes for thousands of dollars. In my mind, they are cheep skates. One of the largest sites to buy and sell firearms and related items, charges a transaction fee based on the price. Most times it is in excess of a Silver Membership here.

No body is trying to bully you. You get to make a choice if you want to buy and sell by paying a membership fee. If, as I hope, the Boss makes it a rule to have a Silver Membership, you then have a choice.

Now myself, I won't buy from a non member. Anything they are selling can be bought from a paying member. I don't have any respect for freeloaders of any kind.

My rant is over
I am a man of my word. A hand shake makes the deal. I'm certainly not bothered by you.
I don't have to play the superior game.

That’s the problem, there are no “handshakes“ on the Internet!!!

FYI, I don’t contribute to this site to feel “superior” I do it because I feel it is the right thing to do.

Of course, we all know there are a lot more takers than givers in the world. One of the reasons socialism never works in the long run.

Yeah, Lyfao!!

Hand shakes occur in person, a little more difficult to scam. You know, you give me the cash, I give you the scope and we shake hands??!!!

What makes no sense is a certified freeloader asking me if I am a Democrat!!

Boss I appreciate your concern for fokes getting ripped off and I will support whatever action you decide on. BUT, these guys on the site ain't kids, they are grown gun owners! They are responsible enough to pass back ground checks, serve in the military, serve as law enforcement, ect. They need to be responsible for their own deals, you have told them to call. If they are too dumb or lazy to do that.... YOU AIN'T RESPONSIBLE!!!!
Oh yeah, IMHO silver or gold to sell or buy.....

Perspective ...
I personally know a fellow that makes 10k a month on a site like this one from 2k+ sales & sponsors.
So ....don't kid yourself. This is a lucrative endeavour not a money pit like shooting.

Then theres the non contributors with 57 total posts here and 25 feedbacks for buying stuff.... lol

I think he meant you when the Forum Boss wrote this:

“I want guys like Milo to consider this. I will work 3300+ hours on the site this year. I have worked all but 3 days in 2019 -- that means I have worked 239 out of 242 days so far. I typically work 65-70 hours a week on the site.

I release nearly 1000 articles a year in the bulletin. That is more than the American Rifleman does with a team of editors and writers.”

Concerning Jmayo's comment, it's comparable to the sound of clapping with one hand regarding this matter.

So, $10,000 a month sounds like a lot of money. Really? Have you ever attempted to post something on this site and have to wait a bit before it showed up? How about going to a new page? Do you have to wait several seconds for it to appear? I'll bet that at this moment there are at least 300 members reading and posting here, with no delay or other interruptions while doing so. Ask yourself why that is. It's the server. It's a quality, high speed server. It's also the software. Good quality software. Both of these are expensive. The higher the quality, the more expensive it is.

The Boss is entitled to benefit from his time spent in running this site. Salary, hospital insurance, FICA and taxes to name a few. How about putting a little away for retirement. Don't forget the costs of maintaining operating space for an office.

So you begrudge him a measly $25.00 a year. Looks and sounds to me as if you spend a good amount of time each year on this site. To you, it's an entitlement, rather than a privilege. Your kind, that's to say, "the world owes me a living," Don't give a damn for anyone but themselves. Take, take and then take some more, and leave nothing for anyone else. Your the kind that would go to church and put an empty envelope in the basket.

From the tone of your previous post on this matter, sounds to me like your are a sad, bitter, jealous person, with very few friends. I will keep you in my prayers.

Sniper's Hide has vastly more members and they just installed a feedback system. I don't get all the whining here. It's the Internet. You pays your money, you takes your chances.

Anohter popular precision rifle forum [I dare not name it for fear of having this comment deleted] has a far more active PX and I've bought/sold things for years there, without a single incident.

Not sure what is so special about this smaller forum that should require any more moderation than it does now.

The best way to stop scammers is to require 100 meaningful posts before anyone posts anything for sale, period. That gives everyone a chance to check out the person and feel comfortable with the seller.

All this drama on this point strikes me as rather ... interesting.

I'm in no hurry to get up to 100 posts here.

SH is a whole other universe. This site has a fairly open and lenient classified ad system and scammers have taken advantage of it hence more moderation. .

SH is a whole other universe. Selling on there requires $$$ paid to the site. As far as the 100 post, that's in addition to the "contribution" to SH. This site has a fairly open and lenient classified ad system and scammers have taken advantage of it hence more moderation. Having said all that, if this site doesn't suit your needs as a non contributor, I suggest you take your non contributory posts over to Sniper's Hide where they may receive more consideration. Have a good day.

WRONG: No, you do not have pay anything to post things for sale there.

Yes, you must have 100 legitimate posts to sell things there (which I thinks if a great idea!).

Dale, don't waste your time on some people. Hey, I'm scamming people on powder this week, still got that $1000 put decimal where wanted, scope.

Boss, In my opinion, I think limiting the classifieds to paying/supporting members is a good idea. We support the site and so maybe we get some money from sales. One hand washes the other so to speak....... However, I don't think you should lose any sleep if someone gets ripped off after not following some basic common sense practices. You do more than enough for us and in no way should you feel responsible if you don't hold someones hand. We are all adults here. If you are foolish and get ripped off, that should be life's incentive to be smarter next time.
