Its an inch and half and no wobble in dirt at 32x
My bad. I guess it's so big I misjudged the thickness.

My new rifle is Long! Ya know you could always (partially) fill the legs with some lead shot if wanted more heft!! I use 2ft 1In pvc pipes filled with small shot on my crab pots and that comes out to about 5lbs a pipe, to give you an idea,My bad. I guess it's so big I misjudged the thickness.
I just bought the legacy shooting bench, same one as in your picture. Doesn't get more stable!!!
1 1/2 inches of table top is plenty!Good shape. But probably going to need to be twice that thick.

on the last bench! this is a new shape!Yes, I already addressed that.

Very nice.
I cover mine in sand. Using the marine varnish and then sprinkle the the sand into the varnish while it is wet. This makes it feel like concrete for bipod use.
I have been experimenting now that I have spread my wings to 1000. I have had my best luck with free recoil on my light rifle using small harris bipod. I set it on a piece of very slick formica glued to 3/4 ply board that was clamped to my bench. The rifle just slides back straight like it was in a fitted front rest. I even greased it up with vicks! I guess this made the jump even on both feet. I got sone nice .5moa groups at 1k. I tried loading it up by using a large strip of stick on non-skid but I wound up having to shoot on my heartbeat too much. I have an Atlas for my heavy gun but have been using my Protector front rest for load work so far. Once I get all dialed then I'll switch to the Atlas and give it a whirl. My main battle so far has been setup on the rifle and I think the U shape will work better for me.
Same here. Great bench if you can find one.I have that same bench(Legacy Shooting Products)with the 4 adjustable legs.Very well made, legs store in the underside and has a handle cutout for easy carrying, and price won't break the bank.I like mine a lot.
I can make one for someone but the frt will be crazy.Same here. Great bench if you can find one.
I would opine this is the most stable bench on this thread, without ever using it. Why, you may ask? Well, from my experience of 24 years of shooting all over the country, I've never shot on a bench made of wood in any way that was stable, particularly legs but any bench with joints that aren't welded will move. Here is a semi portable, for pickup truck. Weight is about 75 lbs but I can roll it up on the tailgate and lay it flat on its top.
1 1/4" plywood top rides in the cab and clamps on.
The target stand is a must for shooting tiny groups. No wiggle, has braces to the target holder.View attachment 1492652View attachment 1492653
3 or 4 legs?I have a nifty heavy portable bench with the classic L shape cutout
I had to mount a new scope on my (first) chassis rifle so I got to try out my new batman bench. I have never felt comfortable shooting the chassis on L bench but when I got squared up behind it It was like putting on your slippers. It felt so good I shot 10 in a row as fast as I could on one target after zeroing!
The other interesting thing is with my 22lr I could never see the entire bullet flight shooting on the L. But by getting squared up behind it I could see each bullet arc down and hit the target. Cant wait to get out to the 1000 yd range.

I tried shooting cockass sideways on my L to get behind the rifle and but out of my shoulder pocket but never felt like I had a consistent and comfortable setup from session to session. The new bench is like shooting prone without having to lay in the mud.I shoot behind. Even on an L.
looks like you shoot from the rear side. How do you get hunkered up on your rifle if the stool was in the back..the leg is in the way and your scope is mounted too far forward.
