Can anyone offer up any suggestions on best way for a DYI’r to polish aluminum scope rings, stainless or aluminum actions with Dremel or small angle grinder… buffing wheels, polish, compound? I’ve got a few things not looking so great anymore.

Thanks

Trying to remove fine scratches

Try hand polishing the with Wenol or semichrome first. You’ll be surprised what the can do. If that doesn’t work always work with the least aggressive methods first…

If ur looking for scratch removal, ur going to need sandpaper. If the scratches can be seen in normal light, start with 600 wet. Then go up from there. U can purchase 1000, 1500, 2000 at the auto parts store. For the final polish, jewelers rouge and a felt polishing wheel. Be prepared for some sweat equity if doing this by hand.

3M 3000 Trizact sanding pads and Happich Simichrome polish.

As a sleezy ole Biker of sixty plus years , nothing does a better job on taking the scratches out of aluminum better than Semichrome polish . Just have the patience to keep "working it" .

I had a few bits to polish (and remove filing marks).
Bought a cheap set of polishing wheels...
https://www.amazon.com/Tworider-Buffing-Polishing-Aluminum-Stainless/dp/B09M3QG4LZ/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2EUJSWD6Y8CYP&keywords=polishing+wheel&qid=1705965854&sprefix=polishing,aps,316&sr=8-5&language=en_US&currency=USD&th=1
Mounted the big wheel in my old drill press, bunged on some green polishing paste and away I went.
Green paste here...
https://www.amazon.com/SCOTTCHEN-Bu...&sprefix=green+polishing+paste,aps,295&sr=8-9
Took very little time to do. Maybe 20 minutes for all the bits.
Pic to show some of the bits...all are aluminum and are things I added to my CZ to make it fit my BR use better. There's a thumb rest, rear slider bracket, and front slider on this rifle plus a bunch I did for other club members who liked my 'shiny bits'.
If you have a few things to do, then a wheel is way better and faster.

Please educate me here on what I’m looking at & proper use of each Machinist John.

Writing on wheels indicate grit and rotation direction.
