PM 1236 opinions (lathe)

I own a PM1340GT, great lathe and a great company(Precision Matthews) that stands behind their products. The 1236 is a good machine as well although if you can swing it go with the PM1340GT, it's well worth the extra money, the fit and finish on a 1340 is top notch. There is a noticeable difference in quality between the Chinese and Taiwan lathes. Feel free to PM me if you would like to discuss further or ask questions.
I'd love to have a PM 1340GT, but I need to put a mini-split in my garage first! This thread reminded me I need to put a 230v outlet in place for down the road.

My PM1236 took 3 months to arrive in 2009.
I have used it nearly every day for turning metal or wood [12 years].

I have replaced the light many times.
I have remounted [drill and tap] the DRO for cross feed.
I have replaced the change gears to get from 12TPI [Mauser] to 16TPI [Rem700].
I remounted [drill and tap] a gear key that drives the lead screw.

What do you mean you've replaced the change gears to get from 12-16TPI? Stock your 1236 supports the full range of imperial TPI threading (albiet with some end gear changes). What needed replacing?

From this chart and picture, you can see I can make 16 tpi this mourning, without getting my hands dirty.

But 12 TPI, dirty hands and wrenches.

But on the bright side, you can see from the chart that the 16TPI/12TPI switch is less work than the change gear effort for rebarrelling a metric Arisaka or Howa

My change gears were replaced when I wore them out. As you can see in the pic, a couple of new gears.
