Please tell me why ...

I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one to do this. You fall out of love with a rifle or pistol and of course you sell it, that's pretty normal, right? But now you have a lot of ammo for that sold gun which really isn't a problem until down the road you start thinking about all that ammo sitting there growing dust on it.

To buy a gun and use up that ammo would cost at least four times what the ammo's worth, but it just keeps bugging you until you start looking for something to shoot that stuff up with and be done with it. Just a junker you know, ... well maybe something a little nicer, ... but then what the heck, if your going to shoot it all up you might as well have something accurate to do it with, right? ... Please somebody help me!

Don’t ever sell a gun! That’s my simple rule. I had a good reason to buy it when I bought it so why sell it. I have sold a few and still regret it, hence the new rule.

This is not bad advice, but I take it one step further...don't ever sell a gun that shoots. I have spent more money, time, labor, aggravation, alcohol and mileage {not at the same time, just sayin'}, wear and tear on my lathe and shipping fees trying to replace the rifles I sold that shot fantastic. I have also seen several other guys do this same thing and regret it as much as I do. When you have one that is a real hummer it is taken for granted that it can be replaced......don't count on it!!!!!

I've sold three guns and don't regret any of them.

A Savage semi-auto .22lr. Shot the heck out of it and I don't remember ever cleaning it much. Some guy wanted one for his kid and I needed some $$$ for a .40 XD. Got the same as I paid for it.

Savage 12FV in 22-250. Got tired of only getting a handful of rounds down the barrel before it was hot as heck. PDs were all over the place at the time and I was shooting them like crazy. Traded for some cash and a semi auto shotgun. Still have dies, but I use them to reload for a buddies gun.

Winchester Model 94 in 30-30. Some kid needed cash right now. Gave him a $100 for it. Shot a few coyotes with it and then someone else wanted it a lot more than I did and made a handsome profit on it. Sold the dies to someone that was going to a gunsmithing school.

Can't take em with you . They eat just like kids . Electric for air conditioning , time for oil and cleaning , separate rooms and security just for storage . Plus you can never make up your mind ,,which one to take to the range .

Sold A BOATLOAD of guns! It off set the cost of the new ones I wanted. Though the total number sold is close to a hundred (yes, I've been at it a long time) oddly there is only a couple that I regret letting go. I included the ammo in the sale.

I sold one yesterday, there was nothing wrong with it, it was very accurate, but I have another of the same caliber that I like more.

Selling guns. I have sold a few kept most. Been doing the handloading, a little smithing, and shooting for 45 plus years. Making a rifle that doesn't shoot to my expectations into a good shooting piece is a source of pride for me. Call it teaching them to fly. Just the normal stuff: bedding, trigger work, scope upgrades, barrel swaps and most importantly load development. Don't think I have a mentally ill fixation, I just enjoy working an using them. Have reached a point where I feel I have enough. It is fun to look in the safe and pick out the flavor of the day. Spent a life time getting to my personal Valhalla.

Almost every gun I ever sold I regretted later.

I wouldn't buy a gun just to use up ammo - I'd sale the ammo to a fellow shooter. However if the ammo is for a caliber you like then I might buy another rifle in that caliber. Depends on why you sold the gun in the first place.

I have sold one gun I regret. I went back and offered twice what it is worth in cash. The response was “it is going to be buried with me”. I immediately made friends with his wife.

I have only sold one rifle in the last twelve years. A friend and his wife were going to Zimbabwe Leopard hunting, and she beat me out of my Chapuis 9,3x74R DR. I did get it in writing that I have first dibs if she ever decides to sell it.
