Plastic stock adding weight

I picked up a remington VTR in 308 on thursday and after cleaning it,very dirty, and mounting a scope I see that the stock does not feel right. The rear stock is light what should i fill it with? I thought of useing spray foam but i would like something more solid. Would kaulking work, liquid nail. This stock is the same as a rem sps only green.
Thank you, Brad

The general rule of thumb seems to be having the rifle balance right at the front of the receiver. I use lead shot in the butts of my rifles but it is not really as efficient as solid lead would be. If you are trying to keep the rifle as light as possible then you want the weight as far back as possible.

The weight of the rifle needs to be heavier. I just came back from breaking it in and 3shots touching at 100yds. But the trigger is to stiff and the gun to light.

ollie,
If the stock is like the regular tupperware's, take the butt pad off, get some modeling clay, and fill up the cavity.
Or, mix in some lead shot if more weight is needed.
No movement and removeable.

Ollie, The but pad is screwed on, thats a plus, the stock is hollow, mine had a piece of thin styrafoam sheet in it. I dont really know the purpose. Spray a little foam in the butt, pour in some shot, spray more foam. Keep doing this process until you get the needed weight. You can mix shot w/epoxy and fill all the voids in the forearm. This will add about a pound. The smaller the shot size, the more weight you will add in the same space.

Well i tryed this. I took off the but pad and there was a piece of 'packing' foam inside. I then took heavy sand and filled up the void. Put it back together and a littel heavy. So I took a piece of 1in PVC put caps on it and used it as a spacer to lighten the feel. Used the "packing foam" cut to the size of the but pad 3 or 4 deep and screwed it all together. The end result is a well balanced good feeling rifle. All that is needed now is a good tactical paint job.
