Pistol ... Your Favorite ...

A year or so ago a fellow handed me his Ruger 9 mm at the range and insisted that I try it out. I was surprised at how well it shot. I'm not saying I don't like my Para Ordinance 45 better, I was just impressed for the money. Besides I like Rugers history.

the FBI proved the 9mm was not enough for a bad situation. they only make two pistols that are proven for target, defense, and ease of working on. the 1911 which has never failed me. and the S&W revolver, personally like 38's for target and comp. and 41 mag and 44spl for necessity. 50 years of using the 1911 and 44SPL have convinced me of this as fact. i know everyone has a different idea but all of our comments are personal ideas,

A lot of people buy what is recommended from mags. are friends are not pleased later and it's yours now not happy is a bummer. You buy a pistol by how it feels and fits your hand, they all feel different.

The Glocks don't do a thing for me when compared with other semi auto's, but I also do understand they have a Big following. The only Glock I ever owned a model 21, I just wanted for it to go away, ended up swapping it

I agree. I have a glock 17 that my wife bought me years ago as a Xmas gift so I can never get rid of it, but it just sits in the safe because i don't like it at all and gave up trying to get it to shoot accurately for me. I've tried to make myself like it over and over but no go. If I had an intruder in the house I would grab the Glock just before resorting to a handful of rocks.

SIG P220 in 45ACP. Never fails in any way. Place a 5 gal. bucket to my right and behind me a bit and there is all my spent brass one after the other. Not only does it shoot flawlessly it polices its own brass!

not sureof you intended use, but the following i sift from my experience and agree with many comments above.

stopping power excellent, 45acp, 44spl, 40sw,357m, then forget it-all accurate
9mm marginal stopping -shoots well, accurate lower recoil
44spl, SW 629 revolver 4 inch bbl
357m sw 686 4 inch
45acp kimber 1911 full size or carry version
40sw, the ugley Glock, they work, shoot, and are lighter than non toy plastic- get over it they work - i have a friend int Sec Serv. and they go 3000-4000 rounds in training before cleaning

when it may be a life at risk the $ spent are meaningless, if it is a toy for play - then who cares by the cheep ones if you want to they are cheep for a reason.

A pistol is never more effective than a 12 gage shotgun with buckshot or a 308 rifle.
I`ve learned this when I was hunting and shooting on wounded animals.
For stoping power there is no alternative to a shotgun or rifle.

I have an older s and w model 39 in 9mm and it has only a 8 round mag but it functions flawlessly and fits my hand for 200.00.

I don't like the Glock or Ruger, they don't fit my hand. If the Glock fits your hand, then yes, its worth $200 more. If the Ruger fits, then the Glock is not worth $200 more. Fit of the hand gun should trump price, every time. My one and only semi-auto is a Walther P99 40S&W, it fits me, shoots great, functions flawlessly(as long as I don't keep magazine loaded for extended periods), and is slim which makes for easier concealment. I can also reach all the "buttons" without repositioning my grip.

I bought an XD-M 4.5" 45 ACP last October......BEFORE the crap hit the fan. I haven't shot pistols in YEARS, so I based my buying decision on the gun rags articles and how it felt in my hand in the store.

Now, put a rifle in my hands and I am a fair cook....but I felt totally USLESS shooting this thing. First off it shoots about six to eight inches low at 7 yards...no way to adjust the sights. Second it shoots all over the place. I figured it was me. like I said, it had been 25 years since I did any kind of practice with one.

Yesterday I go to take my ND class 1 concealed carry license...I have had the class 2 for many years. The test is painfully simple 12 shots (timed) at 7 yards..6 with one hand , reload, and six with two hands. The second stage is 12 shots at 15 yards..six standing, reload, and six on two knees.

I FAILED....only had 11 out of 24 on the target....a 8 inch by 11 inch sheet of paper.....in front of a dozen smirking faces!!! Lots of comments....something about being a national LR champion bla bla bla......I felt PITTIFULL, and didn't have enough ammo to retest. A friend loaned me his pistol....bull barreled ruger 22 . In my retest, all 12 of the 7 yard shots could be covered with a silver dollar, and I shot fast because I spent 10 seconds looking for the friggen safety. The 15 yard group was about 3 inches. So now I felt a little better about my shooting, but PO-ed at my pistol. I had the instructor pop off the 10 remaining rounds at 7 yards with it......probably an 8 inch group. I thought that was piss poor, but the instructor said that the bad guy was DOA with all 10 rounds....good enough!!

I'm not sold.....Maybe an automatic 45 is not the right tool for an accuracy junkie!! ;D ;)

However, the 9MMs are more in my price range. So ... I've looked and 9MM is my choice. In doing so - there is a wide range of prices and I just don't understand so I'm asking.

Ruger's P95 (black) runs in the $350 to $375 range - depends on where you buy it. You can jump up and pay over $600 for a Glock 19 (I might have this over priced) but still $200 more is my guess.

So - the Ruger P95 for $375 or the Glock.

Why would I want to spend the additional $200 for the Glock (or other "well known brand")?

Is the Glock or H&K or Sig more accurate? Better made?

You thoughts are appreciated.
You will pay NO more CALIBER WISE (I paid $860 for my last NEW Sig Sauer 220 C W/ NS in 45 ACP, 2 weeks later I paid $1025 for a NEW Sig Sauer 226 Tac Ops in 9mm ) for a QUALITY 9mm, 40 SW, 45 ACP the DIFFERENCE is what AMMO costs. You STILL have NOT addressed the concerns of INTENDED USE (IT MATTERS TO MOST OF US). Yes you get BETTER quality and accuracey in Sig Sauer, H&K, S&W. But just picking a BRAND/MODEL Does apsolutely NOTHING for you as far as how the pistol FITS your hands and how the controls function for you,If it dosn't FIT you'll not be happy with it and accuracey will suffer. You also mention what model Ruger and model Glock 19 (there are different frame sizes) . If you just want a CHEAP pistol Buy a JUNK HiPoint in 9mm, GARBAGE in my opinion but cheaper the the Ruger and it MAY give you your BANG FOR YOUR BUCK. Lot'sa people trying to help you out here , maybe reread what's been said.

I bought a Ruger P95 last year at my local dealers Ruger Days for $268.00 + tax and very pleased so far. No failures of any kind experienced and has what I consider better than average accuracy. I also have owned for the past 20 years a Ruger Mk II with 10" bull barrel that I would put up against any other 22 cal handgun or accuracy. As for carry I recently bought a Springfield XDS, single stack 45 that I've only put 130 rds thru and again no malfunctions so far. Accuracy is better than expected from such a small pistol. I learned long ago that you don't have to spend the most money to get a decent serviceable weapon.

Got to shoot this over the weekend for the first time ... time will tell if it was a good investment.

Next purchase will be a 1911 or something in a 40 S&W ...

I am a huge CZ75/97 fan, they fit me better than any other pistol out there. But right now, crazy $$ to buy one. Just throwing this out there, but I bought something called a Tri-Star C-100 2 weeks ago. It is a Canik 55 made (Turkish) CZ 75 compact clone. They sell for about $330 online. I wasn't expecting much but frankly it is a very nice gun and shoots well. And the stock trigger is better than a real CZ!!

ok I catch your drift on "why pay more" normally the higher priced gun has a better fit, finish, reliability, accuracy, warranty....well at least it should have ;)

you can't always assume you are getting a better gun cause of a higher price...I guess that's why some magazine publishers state "best buy" or "editors choice " meaning that particular product met or exceeded their expectations for an item in that price category.

Or perhaps you just haven't had the right .45acp yet...cause the ones I shoot are plenty accurate. ;)

4xforfun,

I have the same XD as you, and with my hand loads it is nearly as accurate as my Match 1911's

You may want to try a couple different types of ammo, or rolling you own. Maybe you got a Lemon, but I can tell you that mine is much more accurate than I expected, and I'm a guy who shot alot of bullseye for many years.

Quite frankly, I like it as much or better than my 1911's. Of all of them, I still Love my Ruger Mark Ii witha 5" bull barrel. It shoots remarkably well with cheap ammo, and taught me more about pulling the trigger than all my other pistols combined...at a fraction of the cost to shoot.
