Pillars and Escutcheons

I will be doing my first pillar job soon. I wanted to install some Escutcheons as well. My question is, should the bottom of the Pillar and the top of the Escutcheon touch or should there be a gap between them?

Allow a space between the pillar and the escutcheon to insure the escutcheon flange will sit tight against the stock. Be sure that the space becomes almost entirely filled by the bedding compound.
Good luck.

Install the pillar and give the bedding plenty of time to set. If there is space between the pillar and the escutcheon, I will put some bedding compound between them and lightly torque the action screw in place. Like 30 inch pounds.

That way the escutcheon is pressed against the stock and the fit should be nice and tight.

I do put release agent on the escutcheon so that it can be removed or replaced if necessary.
