Y'all asked for it ......

So here it is.

I don't know the actual weight yet. My goal is to have this come in at or below 13 ounces.

Features:

Black Anodized Aluminum Body
Stainless Clamps
10-32 screws
HeliCoil thread inserts

Price = $195.00 (and that includes shipping to any US address)

Looking good so far!

Thanks.
The design will probably change slightly after Ive made the first one.

I want to shave off ALL of the excess weight that I can but still maintain the structural rigidity.

Depending on the interest in this, I'm going to start off with about 4 dozen units.

please explain how it will be used.....

2 scope mounted side by side. Reticle adjusted to the same aim point. Take a shot. Both reticles should still be aimed at the same point. If they are not, one of the scopes moved, did not hold zero.

I'm not sure about others; but I don't need two continuous rails;. That could save weight. Likewise removing centerline for the type 2 rail can also save weight. As you've mentioned; this doesn't go on a 338LM, a lighter recoil still does the test.

O.K., I'm in. When will they be ready?
Also, have you or anyone else made an adapter to mount a dovetail scope to a picatinny rail?

Bill

If need be, and enough of y'all need Picatinny to Dovetail adapters, I can turn out a batch.

If it's not an indelicate question, might I ask as to why the thing needs to be anodized at all???? We are trying to check scopes...wouldn't it be a little more economical and time saving to omit this seemingly unneeded step??? Bare aluminum should still prove or disprove the scope in question.

For some reason I would like to see the checker mount in the center.

The slight possibility of tweaking the base with the torque of the mounting and effecting the distance between the 2 scopes is a concern. As small a possibility, having nothing between the 2 scope that COULD effect the distance or angles between them is the best option IMO.

One thought. I did the math on the temperatures required to screw something like this up, and it's not much. I would recommend steel (for its lower coefficient of thermal expansion), and not black anodizing (to reduce heating up from the sun). A few degrees difference from one side of the mount to the other such as from sitting it he sun, and you'll throw it off a 1/4 minute or more.

The way this tool is used, thermal expansion is not an issue. You look through each scope verify both are zeroed take a shot and look through them both again. Literally a few seconds. Plus, if there was enough sun to be heating up the mount theres probably too much mirage to use it anyhow. Also, the heating would have to happen on only half of the mount to cause and angular change in scope alignment.....
