Pic Rail Contact

I'm getting some pretty positive feedback here, which is flattering. Not sure about production - selling to the public is whole different ballgame from what I'm doing currently (automotive). Considering it!
Wondering where you live. I'm 67 and live near Williams dam. Never know you might be close! Gary

I'm going to make 20 or 30 of them and set up a website - see if there is any broader interest.

They'll be made from 7075 and hard anodized black.

I'll post some pics when they are ready - It's going to take at least a few weeks to get everything going.

Final pricing is TBD - but I'm estimating 250 - 300 range.

I'll post updates here as I make progress.

Any feedback on dimensions, material, anodize, packing, shipping, etc. is welcome!

As first foray into making, one I'll say is: labeling. Try to "engrave" (however that works, often can just change tools on the CNC station) and include:
  • Company name. Contact info like website not important, might change, just an easily findable name.
  • Model. Make it up if need be but give these a model name.
  • Date. Even just to year.
  • Specs if that's unclear, could be others. Like height, ring size.
Can be hidden, like underneath when installed, but good to have vs mystery object years or decades from now. Doesn't have to be long, I explained a lot. Like:

NIXIAN M1.0 22

I also like torque values, but that can be a lot to fit on there, and either place adjacent or explain, but at least include that on a bit of paper in the box.

It's all helpful to end user and to YOU. To sell more, or to provide support later, they read stuff off the side instead of you having to spend time figuring it out from photos and measurements and memory, or having broken screws, etc. etc.

I think those are great ideas shoobe01. I’m working on model number(s) and a logo. Might have look into laser marking them. Engraving on a cnc takes time and the resolution is limited because of the line width required.

Oh sure, just didn't want to start saying you need to buy lasers or pay other folks to do work. But should have known you'd be over achiever :)

Ok - wanted to give an update.

I'm working hard on this. I want to start this off right and there is a lot that goes into it. Making the parts is my area of expertise. Everything else is a lot harder for me!

I keep running into the reality that doing this halfway (run 20 or 30 of the design I already have) doesn't make cents when there is so much that goes into doing it right.

I have a laser marker on order. I have some packaging worked out. I have a website started. I have a half dozen models ready to prototype. I have a logo.

I don't know how long it will take before the first one is ready to go. I'm hoping soon, but there is no way to know until I get there.

What heights are you going to offer ? I like the packaging..added cost.. but nice. What is the web address ?

For a 30mm one piece, the current design of 1 inch from center to top of rail is about as low as you can get it (the material connecting one ring to the other gets too thin if you go shorter). I haven't worked on other heights for that one yet. What would you like to see?

Website is not live yet - address will be hmtprecision.com

Packaging adds some expense - but I chose this route after pricing "nice" cardboard boxes - not that much difference.
