Peterson Brass

Read a few places that Peterson brass was ready to load out the bag. And I've also read that there have been lots of brass with residual lube from manufacturing that can foul powder. I've always ran through my die with appropriate bushing however i have never ran virgin brass through the cleaner before loading. Do y'all clean brass prior?

So far I have not seen any residue in the Peterson brass that I have used. The only issue I have encountered is the load must be reduced from a Lapua brass load. Especially the small rifle primer brass which weighs @ 10 grains more than 308 family Lapua brass. Smaller brass like the 6BR family the weight was almost as much difference.

I had a few that didn’t fire and am wondering if oil fouled the primer or powder.
They were false shouldered and significant bullet jam so headspace wasn’t an issue.
I’ll dip the next batch of new cases in acetone first

I did segregate those primers, to test later.

I've bought Peterson brass on several occasions (some from bulk bags and other from their boxes of 50) and never had any that needed to be cleaned before use. But there are other issues for considering. Peterson brass most likely will have a different case capacity than other brass I use as I've found every time as well as different primer pocket depths. The brass is nicely annealed and trim length is very consistent, but the case mouths are not chamfered or deburred. The bulk brass has had just a couple cases there were slightly dented and rand a expander mandrel through them and the boxed cases have never had that issue due to the way they're packed. If any of these things are of no concern to you for their first firing, the brass is ready to load and fire. :)

I've never had issues with any residual lube, it is less capacity than pretty much everything else out there. Ive also noticed primer pockets on SRP 260 brass are very tight with a larger radius in the bottom corners of the pocket that can make primers stand proud. I do uniform pockets and run a mandrel through the neck, but thats usually it.

A few months ago I purchased some Peterson brass and had some problems. That's another story. On the question of cleaning...While breaking down some of the brass that I had loaded there were lots of cases, (probably 15 cases) out of 25 that when I dumped out the powder there were many small clumps of powder. I thought maybe my powder had gone bad. I emptied out what was left in the 1 lb. can and it was fine, no clumps. I have used Peterson brass many times before and that was the first time powder clumping occurred.

I noticed some powder sticking to the neck area on that virgin brass I loaded.
