Peterson 280AI brass

Finally got around to running this brass up to pressure. It took about .5 grains less to equal the velocity I was running with nosler. This is in a 24" barrel, got a very faint erector mark at 59.5. But its new brass, not fire formed yet.20201004_101110.jpg

alex i am curious where you find accuracy at with this combo... i spent quiet a bit of time with these components and my numbers looked simular to yours... but i couldnt get any kind of accuracy above 2830... will be watching to see where you land with this... thanks for posting this...

Finally got out to shoot some groups, did this at 300 and kind of made a mess but it's hard to aim at a bunch of small targets with a 15x scope.

with velocity over 3000 fps with that excellent bullet I would not bother with a 280 Ackley. your load at 59 gr has to be one of the flattest shooting combos around

I would probably buy Lapua 30-06 brass and neck it down to 7mm long before using Peterson brass.

As you know, I had dimensional issues with Peterson 300 Norma brass. Super tight primer pockets, undersized head and web that resulted in cracked case bodies, etc. I believe they have corrected those discrepancies now but dimensions weren’t the only thing. I also had big issues with inconsistencies in the alloy they used. Even though I was just barely working the case with sizing, I would have extremely inconsistent bounce back on the shoulders and necks. Had to anneal and resize once fired cases 2 times to get them to hold somewhat consistent sizing specs.Would Anneal and size, no good...anneal and size again, better but not perfect. Some cases just never would come out right and had to be discarded (could never feel my expander ball touching the neck at all after running thru my annealer two times using tempilaq to be sure). Neck tension all over the place. I’m sure Peterson can make some decent brass in some cases, but I will never be buying it again.

The problem is that 30 06 lapua brass ends up about. 070 short after you form it. Otherwise I'd do it.
Yeah that’s too much. Didn’t know there was that much of a difference. Suppose a guy would have to design a slightly shortened reamer to run 30-06 Lapua brass. But then it’s not really a 280. Would be a 7mm-06

Ya, I thought of it, but I'll just do a 7 saum and use ADG brass before I go through all that hassle.
Are you still thinking about playing around with the 7 PRC?

It’s been wildcatted off the 375 Ruger case in the past but never been tested with good brass as far as I know. Now with ADG making PRC brass, I think the 7 PRC could be a hell of a fast and efficient round but probably easier on barrels than a 28 NOS

59 is a full house load. You would not get to that speed in a straight 280
I am sure the OP said he was using 280 brass to fire form for the AI and got that velocity. I made loads for my friends 280 with 26" barrel and almost cracked 3000 fps with 162 gr bullet

I started with Peterson 280 ai brass. It has a 40 degree shoulder. Its new brass not shot in my chamber so I am fireforming, but Im not moving the brass much.

It’s slightly easier on barrels. .007 in 100 rounds of throat erosion. Runs with 28 Nosler with a little less powder. Likes to be run hot. 24” barrel. 184’s 3115
My last 28 nosler moved .017" in the first hundred rounds. But that was rl33 and 195s. Seems like anything much bigger than a saum and the throats move pretty fast in a 7
