Perspective on Life -- what really counts

rjtfroggy

Over the last month and especially the last 7 days I've had some time to reflect on what is important in life. Fuming over primer/powder/bullet/brass shortages are certainly not at the top of the list (mine anyway). If you have read my last post you know what I have been going through and I will tell you right up front Faith, Family and Friends and how you live your life is what will count.

Take a break sit back and think about what is actually going on I'm sure most will see things differently. At least those of us that are older and have or are going through some of lifes set backs certainly do. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for title change.

The older you get the more you learn to take life in stride - I least I do.

As M-61 said, this is a walk in the park compared to, in my case, 1968 to 1970.

My mantra, try to make each day count for something - do one thing positive even if it's something simple - don't worry about tomorrow - just get through today.

No doubt about it, as we age and things begin to show it within our bodies we also create a much different outlook on life. Things that mattered in our younger days take a back row seat. As rtjfroggy mentioned above STOP, take a look around, move at a different pace, enjoy whatever we can. Nobody knows how many more trips we have left around the sun.

Seems like you have a handle on reality. Too bad it takes most of us 2/3 of our life to figure it out.

I have had tough times in my life. Many . I always think of this story when times seem tough:

A young man working in a restaurant is always complaining about his life's problems. No money, no car, no fun, no this or that. Has to wait , etc etc. An old Jewish man, a holocaust survivor, works there also. The Jewish man says to him one day.
" these are not problems, these are inconvenience's. A problem is no heat, and no food. Not knowing if you will live to see tomorrow. Few clothes that you have are almost rags. These are problems. "

In my life I find that most things are just "inconvenience's"

Here's something that I have found that helps me:

SERENITY PRAYER
God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

I didnt expect to see you back quite this soon. I hope this means things are going well. You are right of coarse about the things that are important. Ive been doing this kind of thinking for some time. Its good to hear it from others.
Thanks and Best Wishes.

Eight hours on the O.R. table, 16 hours in ICU and 4 days in hospital bed. It was time to get up and move. Pain level on scale of 1-10 is about a 12, down quite a bit.
I get out of bed a few times a day walk around the house sit for a while at the computer, then start the cycle all over and it will be like this for a while.
But hey life goes on, hopefully.

Ive got a friend who just went through open heart surgery a month ago. Her experience sounds alot like yours. It takes time when we are in this age range we are, thats for sure. You will get there. Keep the faith

Amen to that. All those things (primers, powder, etc.) is just stuff, not really important in the scheme of life. How we treat our fellow man and prepare for our eternal soul is all that really matters

Nine months ago, my 15 year old son took his life in front of me as I was pleading with him not to. He was my one and only son and we did everything together that a regular father and son would do. Depression, isolation and social media got to him.

These days, I look at what people gripe about and it truly shows me they do not have a true understanding of what is precious and valuable in life. Money doesn't matter beyond covering the basics. Material items don't matter. When you lose your loved ones, you lose a part of you.

Glad to see that you can be back on the forum! You have your priorities correct. I never had grand aspirations or made my life about money. I did set goals and met most of them. I was fairly successful at each thing that I put my mind to. I gave my all whether it be at my job or pursuing my hobbies. I have always cared about the elderly and helped them often. Now I'm getting into that category, although per God's plan, I'm still able to help myself. A couple of years ago I told my daughter that any accolades I achieved are meaningless. What really counts is helping others. She said that's not true. I suspect in a few years she will understand, as she has a big heart. Keep the Faith and always remember that one day you will be glorified in heaven. Powder, primers, bullets and shooting in general are quite low on the totem pole of what life is about.
