Painting a wood stock tutorial

Saw the guy on Bitchin Rides demonstrate wood graining technique, yours is light years ahead. Great job.

Just as the title says how to paint a wooden stock.
Rifle was built by Zack @WSMNUT, and his right hand man Kevin @Hntndad.
Kevin did a outstanding job of relieving this stock to give me ample clearance.
This is a prototype of the "ABR"
Adjustable Bag Rider.
I'll be painting a kestros for this demonstration
Bodywork is complete, primed in simtech polyester View attachment 1199342Step 1 the foundation, I used ocher and white blended as my ground color.
Then taking poster board I tore irregular edges to air brush my heavy grain.View attachment 1199343 this gets clear off to protect the foundation from the next step.
The grain, I used a scotch brite technique here. Spray and work small sections using slow solvent to give work time. Customer was concerned about where cut outs were not showing the white core.
I seriously told him to relax I got this.View attachment 1199345
2nd clear coat to lock it down. View attachment 1199344 View attachment 1199346 this clear is just to level the surface to get rid of texture created from wood grain.
Hold off on any comments good or bad there's more to come

Great job Brett, if I hadn’t seen it through the process I would have never believed it. Another masterpiece.

Kindig taught em how to do it!
Last time I went to the Portland Roadster show, I had the opportunity to meet Kindig.
I refused to stand in line for 2 hours just to shake his hand.
We went next door to the gun show instead.

At the same show Tommy Carr aka The Hot Rod Reverend, had 4 cars entered for judging.
The inside of a old Plymouth sedan delivery
All wood grained.
Tommy also married the wife and me.
Here's a couple other wood grain techniques
On the left it's done with a rubber glove, the right is a wadded up tack rag.

Thanks Zack, especially for the opportunity to work with you on this project.
Looking forward to seeing it completed.

that's awesome!

In a heart transplant procedure, after the re-anastomoses, the patient comes off of bypass. There is that moment when the surgeon lightly strokes the lifeless, non beating heart with the back of his fingertip. The heart comes to life and a new future is formed...
What Brett does is nothing less miraculous. It is a god given talent. I watch Zack @WSMNUT in his shop do the same and I leave my ego at the door. These guys are truly masters of their craft. It’s especially a true blessing to see what happens when you combine these talents into one project. It’s a life altering experience for so many.

I’m glad we’ve gotten to work on several projects and I have a few more for you in the works. I have a 22 LR that’s coming up for our buddy @prowler
And
I’m thinking serious about pulling the stock on my LG and putting it on a bus to OR. However I just switched stocks on my HG so that might make the trip first.

Decisions, decisions

Currently I have nothing going on. I could work on a VW, or go elk hunting.
I'm leaning more towards elk than VW.

Food for thought....
2 stocks ship in the same box for virtually the same price as 1. A little some I learned when we did Kaitlyn's.

I got the stock today. Of course it took about 2 hours to unwrap because Brett takes proper precautions to protect his masterpieces.

Let me just say that the pics do not do the paint job justice. All I could do was laugh and say holy cow I can’t believe this is a painted fiberglass wood stock. It is truly unreal how well it came out and how it looks!

Once again you’ve outdone yourself bud!

Thanks Zack, I'm glad it arrived safely.
Wish I knew how to upload the video I sent you of the simtech clear durability test I did today. It would blow people's mind.
Here's a picture of the puck I banged against a metal step a half dozen times, and I didnt hold back. 90 % of the scuff wiped off with my finger, the other 10% will easily buff out.20200908_131620.jpgautomotive clear would have split and not even formed a puck let alone beat the snot out of it. And it still has flexibility.

I’ve had several people in the shop who couldn’t believe it was a fiberglass stock.
