Yes, they do have rack requirements. And yes, in y opinion they do produce more trophy bucks taken. They also have no Sunday hunting, which (being a Christian) I beleive is one of the dumbest things they could do. Cuts out a lot of potential hunts.
Not trying to derail the happy vibe.
I am still debating what rifle to hunt with tomorrow. Forecast says 50% rain. I don't want to take dad's m88 in the rain. So I think it will be great grandpaps 1884 Springfield Trapdoor. Wish me luck! Longest shot might be 75 yards.
what a fine rifle always wanted a 250/3000.....This will be my 50th first day here in Pennsylvania. I understand bringing it in on Saturday but sure do miss the Monday opener. I’ll be in Venango county in area 2D. I will be using my pre-64 model 70 in 250-3000 Savage. Still rolls deer like a shotgun rolls rabbits!
They were all at my spot on public land today Jeff….lol. Half as many hunters as when I started. . After lunch time even less.
My Savage Axis II in 250-3000 Savage (24" barrel) could hardly be claimed to"roll deer like a shotgun rolls rabbits".This will be my 50th first day here in Pennsylvania. Good job Jeff!!! Congratulations. Marshall and I saw 3 goin mach2 through thick laurel no shots fired. Possibly tomorrowOk, a good day on Pa public ground. I shot an 8 point about 9:30. He was on the sneak. I saw movement just to the edge of what I could see, thought it was a hunter.....but no orange. It disappeared for about 15 seconds that I saw where it emerge out of the brairs another 50 yards away. It was about 200 yards away, front third stopped behind 2 big tress just as I spotted him for the second time. Another step and he is out of sight. So I went for the spine offhand, and it was not his day. Crack....he vanished. Watched for a bit and saw nothing. Went over and he had never taken a step . I was lucky to see him once ,much less twice. Pa mountian buck, good size deer, no trophy rack but these public land bucks in 22,000 acres tract with not many hunters are a challenge. Might be a good day to remember as my last Pa deer hunt, my 63rd opening day. I will go back with a GPS and check the distance. Too thick for a range finder..243 Tika T3, 100 gr Nosler Solid Base.About 8 :00 I saw a buck about the same size in amongst 7 does but no chance for a safe shot on him.A balmy 10 degrees all morning.
Good luck. Find a briar patch.Good job Jeff!!! Congratulations. Marshall and I saw 3 goin mach2 through thick laurel no shots fired. Possibly tomorrow
