One reason I whack coyotes.

Like to see em' !!! I know there are huge guard dogs, wolf protection from Eastern Europe. I dont know how they manage but they do. On the original topic I dont know of anyone that does not advocate blasting yotes on site. On our property there are badgers and red fox in addition to rattlesnakes and at least three types of Hawk, Harriers, Golden and Bald Eagles for the varmit and rabbit population. We have found wolf and the inevitable large kitty cat tracks.

There's not one of these pictured that wouldn't dismember any coyote, these imports have prey drive that is beyond belief, my partner has 45 sold all over the world to police and military, as well as USA border patrol, even the Berlin police in Germany have our lines, pictures to verify. These are NOT American show stock which is total rubbish, these dogs have brains and abilities that would shock most people. All these dogs and about 40 more are in our possession, except for the one in Berlin Germany, we can produce more like him because we have both parents, these dogs will face anything and take their death. All these are 100% trained. The first dog is Carlos legendary known worldwide, many videos of these in action but the videos won't transfer to this site.

The ones that don't advocate it can't or never had shot one ,or are just rank arse amateurs. My opinion only.

My Shepherd/Malinois cross is named “Gunner”. He is 2 yrs, 4 months old and pushing 90 lbs. probably be 100 lbs or more when he’s filled out as an adult. His agility and speed is astonishing for his size. Fiercely protective of his family and property and loyal to a fault. Amazing companion and you always feel safe when he’s around. This is my first police/military type dog and it was easy to see right away why they choose those breeds. I definitely wouldn’t want to be a person or animal on the receiving end of Gunner’s attack!

In 40 years of living in Montana I have never seen a hunting “pack” of coyotes. I know wolves hunt in packs but I’ve never seen coyotes hunting as a pack. Coyotes might gather after one makes a kill or finds a dead animal and sounds off, but I mostly see lone dogs or a mating pair at best. I’d put my money on Gunner against two coyotes any day.

Ledd, the packs I have seen are in Northern CA. And it is more common to see single yotes certainly. I remember a job site I entered years back, Aerospace, and the guard had his dog with him, a BIG Shepard with BIG teeth. I asked about the dog and he laughed and said the dog was "retired". I asked why as he looked young and very full of spirit. Groin biter, unsuitable for police work. Heh Heh Heh

Sideshow but, did you see that video of the Yote that had a full grown mtn lion by the neck ?

That’s funny. Lol!

Yeah I did see that video. The coyote and lion were actually latched together by the face. The lion had yote as much as he had him. It was also a young cat but still an amazing job by the coyote fending it off and being able to get away before he became cat food. Kitty didn’t get his meal that day!

Best sheep herd protection, alongside the donkeys are full size llamas. They are super alert, big, fast, and super tough. They will go after coyotes and kick the living squeeze out of them.
Coyotes live in colonies that will have a dominant breeding pair and one or more subordinate females. They don't hunt as a pack but will join in the fight if nearby and one of the colony gets in trouble. Not many dogs are able to go five to one with coyotes though many would give it their all to protect/defend their own. Maybe a full sized Rhodesian Ridgeback could stop a group of coyotes and two R. R. would be loving the chance to shred Wile E Coyote and all his friends.

Here’s a Dutch Shepherd, (similar to the Belgian Malinois) against a coyote. Not even a challenge for him. The Shepherd even seems to get bored and just lay down next to the coyote. Their strength and agility is amazing.

Watching the video , here's the deal the dog is intimidated by the coyote, if that was one of my working dogs he' , she would be gone. When a dog offers his shoulder to an adversary he's submitted, and notice he won't grab the business end. These are the facts been around dozens of police dogs, and game dogs. A fearless dog would grab the business end win or lose. Regrets in advance if anyone is offended. He laid down because he's had enough.

Or he’s smart and protecting his own neck knowing that if he goes for the head or throat he will be taking damage in a vital area as well. Just depends on the way he was taught to fight in that particular situation. Obviously that shepherd is trained to take down coyotes while taking minimal damage and his method of attack is extremely effective. Very smart way to fight a dangerous predator in my opinion because nobody wants their dog to get torn up when it is not necessary.

Now if the dog was protecting his owner from the coyote then the fight scene may have gone quite differently where the Shepherd would have most likely went straight for the kill with complete disregard to his own safety.

Nope that dog gave up, hunted pigs in Hawaii with dogs and I’ll put a pig up against a coyote all day long, and I assure you when you have a dog that intends to kill their prey they don’t lay down or bite the tail…… it’s all about the throat or back of the neck…..

A smart and well trained dog knows the difference in the situations they are faced with.
LS, not meaning to start a big debate, mind you I've been around many police dogs in last 21 years, with trainers, I've hunted with hounds every other month that hunt coyotes, i've dug badgers and fox in England and Ireland with terriers . I know a cur when I see one and the dog in the video is a cur. Working sheperds, are herd animals in addition to guard, attack, trailing ,sniffing out humans, drugs etc. A true working strain and the Czech, Slovakian, and German strains have prey drive second only to wolves, would attack any predator head on, I've worked with enough of these dogs we have 40 to know, you don't teach a dog to fight or herd, or have prey drive, it's either bred in them for countless generations or they don't have it. The dog above flat out quit. Sorry but facts are facts. I call it as I see it and if you or others disagree , go for it I base my opinions on facts only. It only takes a experienced trainer a short time to determine which canines can't cut it. Any shepherd I've shown here would have dismembered that coyote literally in minutes. Remember all working strain, not American show strain shepherds evolved and were bred with wolves many accidental. Point in case Czechoslovakian wolf dog. Many shepherds carry their genes, the last dog in the picture sitting down has that gene. The video is a total joke and the dog is garbage and, sorry.

The video was just to show their agility and speed. Not to start a debate. If you want to call that dog a cur that’s fine with me. Ain’t my dog.

Exactly, just trying to educate some who may interpret that video as something extraordinary, that's all. I don't profess to know everything but prey driven game dogs I know well, only by learning from others and on hand experience.

Yeah I guess not all dogs are the same. Rottweilers have size going for them and are great dogs but they are slow and not so smart. There’s a reason police and military choose shepherds and the more agile malinois. But coyotes are fast an vicious when cornered so I’m sure they could do some damage.

Best bet to keep coyotes at bay is to get a donkey. They are some coyote stomping and thrashing machines! Sheep farmers have been using donkeys to protect their herds from coyotes for ages and they are extremely effective at their job.
We have folks down here using the donkeys to protect there horses and cows. Works pretty good.

ohlongarm, kill everyone of those that you can, trapping and hunting. 400 yards is a chip shot for most tuned varmint rifles, and my favorite is a 22/250 AI, 243 Win, 6 Rem, and AI versions. I too have turkey's and deer in my yard.

Coyote populations have to be reduced year to year by 75% to keep their population level.

Okay, I agree , I made a quarter mile shot with my 204 last year and dropped a yote with a 35 grain Berger So I know it's possible. But for the most part 300 yards is a long shot here, especially at night when coyotes will sometimes run over top of you. PS, I've got bears and bobcats in my yard also, how's about you.Got pictures wanna see em?

We love the wild life, I had to shoot a possum that was getting on top of the house a couple of nights ago, sounded like burglars in the attic!

I would suggest you invest in some 40g BIB bullets for your 20 as they penetrate well if your barrel can stabilize them.

Bobcats are as rough or rougher on fawns than coyotes, fish and game told me. Bobcats are easy to call in if they are close. Young bears will respond to the call, would not suggest it if you have any kind of heart issues.
