But we pay state taxes in Oregon, and they tax us heavily for the same goods.
Gas where I'm at in southern Oregon is only
$.07 cheaper than yours.

That is OK, instead of charging a State income Tax, they have a Sales TAX. Unlike California who also has a Stale Tax, which only charges tax on goods, Washington charges on labor, shipping, anything you spend money on.
Compared to Oregon who has an average 9% income tax, WA has a 10%+ sales tax on everything. Then there is the car tabs. In Oregon they charge $86 for a two year tab, doesn't matter what it is a VW or a Mercedes. But in Washington, like CA they apply a tax based on a state established value. I pay $125 for a 2003 Ford F350. I have a friend that pays over $1000 on his Mercedes.
Add to that the Gas tax which they keep adding to, plus, plus, plus.
If I were to stay in WA in retirement my savings would last approximately 9 years less than it will in Oregon. Not as good as other states but I grew up in Oregon and want to return to the coast or near the coast.

You are promised only two things in life: Death and Taxes. The tax part is variable.
