HArt action?

Oh yea. Used this thing in college, still have it and use it often. No AutoCAD back then!

I have one of those setup in my shop. Belonged to my father who was a mechanical engineer. He lived with us the last 10 years of his life and spent every day at that drawing board. Taught me how to use it... to a degree. Wish I would have spent more time soaking up the knowledge.

Nice collection of old school hardware John, I assume from your handle you fabbed those scope mounts yourself. I am a fan of the Unertl's and externally adjusted scopes myself. Jim

Mort, my nephew is chief engineer at Air Tractor. He has promised a test ride in one of thier planes.
U see a lot of those Air Tractor aircraft thru out the midwest. Heck of a good airplane with a PT-6 up front. Big money compared to the old Stearmans converted to cropdusting but your powerplant HP and reliability goes way up.Screenshot 2024-01-17 at 11-13-32 Aircraft.png

Mike being a New Yorker...I wonder if the glass came from Bausch & Lomb that used to be in Rochester, NY?
According to the letter from Mike Walker to Jeff Aberegg, The lenses for the Remington XBR scopes were made by Plummer Precision optical of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania.

That info is from Jeff's "Story of Remington Target Scope" in the PS Special Edition NO.2 , Nov. 1994

Pre 1900 engravers chuck. Found it in a box of tools for my little 9x24 South Bend lathe.

Note the bottom is reversible, so you can use it with the shot filled leather bag.

John,
I just love all the old tools n fixtures those old craftsman used. All the skill n knowledge those folks had is rapidly disappearing. They worked wonders with materials we can only marvel at today.

Butch, Seen a couple of those around here. The last one I saw was black and sported the P-40 shark nose. Was spraying a field out by the county range.
Your ride will be more fun If it's not enclosed!

Mort

I still have my pencils, compass and rules from 1963 and 4. In 1978 my wife sat down and taped a sheet of drafting paper to the kitchen table and drew a to scale drawing for our house I'll bet the school just pitched the drafting tables..

I was blessed to fly a couple times with a fellow college student, Andrew King, in the summers of 85-86 at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. He piloted several biplanes in the shows on Sunday. I recall mostly flying in a Tiger Moth, doing aerobatics, no chute. Damn good pilot. I was a bomb dropper for the show a couple times. They consisted of oil cans taped together, a set of tin fins, a pipe fitting holding a 12 ga primed shell (see, shooting connection!) and powdered charcoal filing the cans. When the bombs hit ground, the 12 ga fired, the shell ejected a cloud of black dust out the back of the "bomb". Our goal was to hit the plywood covered VW Thing that served as a "tank" driven by the Black Baron's henchmen. My personal goal was to not get the bombs tied up in the bare rudder and elevator cables in my cockpit! Andy flew for the movie Flyboys. Some of my best memories. And no, I never hit that darned "tank", much to my disappointment.
