Attempting to post picture and first success. Several months ago I began my first custom rifle project. Members were kind enough to provide input regarding fire forming cartridges and choice of bullets. The rifle is a 6mmAI built on a German 98 mauser action, a 25" Douglas contoured barrel and my own stock built out of black walnut and maple. I still have to drill and tap the receiver but I thought I'd post a couple of pics together with my latest stock made from tiger maple with smalting. This stock is replacing my cracked Colt Sauer stock, a 375 H&H I'll be using for moose next month.

savage 10 fcp-k leupold 6.5-20x50 with 30mm tube. 223 that has shot 0.3" at 300 with no wind. sounds crazy but has done it 3 or 4 times with witnesses.

My new 284 Winchester Build:

I just broke in my new 284 Winchester (7mm). I have less than 50 rounds down the tube.

I just broke this barrel in and decided to shoot Sunday. It was a little windy and cool here. I almost got a little discouraged as the wind was blowing hard enough to affect my POA. I cleaned the barrel one more time and shot 10 more rounds.

Below is the pictures of the target. My ES (extreme spread) was 26.32, My SD (standard deviation) was 10.53, avg velocity was 2,725.02 fps.

Then I pulled out my next 5 rounds and took my time. To my surprise, all "5" rounds almost went into the same hole. The group measured .139, center to center, .423 outside to outside.

Hopefully when I fully break this barrel in, It will do a little better!

My baby is finally finished and home. All I need to do is fill/prime/paint the stock. I was going to go with a brown/tan, because she's a hunting rifle also, but I really like how she looks, even before finishing....this is a conundrum.

Here is my 2 R700's. A .223 and a .243 both with 26" Remington varmint contour barrels, H&S stocks, Harris bi-pods and Bushnell Elite scopes (4-16x40 multi X and a 6-24x50 FFP illuminated mil-dot). Nothin to brag about

I beg to differ. Nothing at all wrong with bragging on rifles, whether they are factory or custom, whether a few hundred bucks or several thousand. I have a Rem 700 (VSSF in .308) for which I paid about $650 new back in the day. Either it or I have been lucky enough to win a few matches... I wouldn't sell it for $1,500, because I know what it can do.
