Nth Where Are the Primers Thread...

When did the primers really start to disappear? I am assuming about 3-4 months prior to the election. Has anyone heard when they may start to show back up on the shelves? If they are still making them I wonder why some do not trickle to the local shelves. Just like when toilet paper went crazy on certain days the toilet paper made it to the shelves.

Forum Boss:

1. Primers ARE right now being made at max capacity, given staffing limitations in some of the factories.
2. Primers are being used in factory-loaded ammo, which has a higher profit margin.
3. People are buying large quantities, which is sweeping supplies off the market.
4. Very high prices have motivated speculators. 1000 CCI 41s sold for $315 on Gunbroker a few days ago. Auction 2/11/2021:

5. There have been, by one estimate, 7 million new gun owners in 2020. If each purchases just two 50-rd boxes of ammo, that represents SEVEN HUNDRED MILLION primers needed.
6. Foreign primers are not getting into the USA in the quantities of years past.
7. Executives of big companies, such as Vista Outdoor, are predicting shortages well into the late fall of 2021.

I'm not sure much more needs to be said. But if you guys want to talk about it go ahead for the next 12 hours, then I will lock this thread. Along with the 20+ other "primer crisis" threads started in the last few weeks.

Seven million new gun owners. Big number.
However of that 7 million how many are going to be reloaders.
( Lots to figure into that....how many know the ammo can even be reloaded? How many have the interest? How many are capable? It goes on as you know). Then factor in the total cost to start if you can find the components.
I think a large percentage of the 7 million were purchased because it finally dawned on them they should be ready to protect themselves and their family. Or maybe the 2nd amendment finally caught their attention.
Be nice to know how many will start to reload but my guess is it's really low.

Scheels, a relatively big sports store chain in the upper MW, had CCI 450s, Fed 210 and CCI 209 last week in Fargo ND. 200 limit per family per day and a steady line of people buying them. Took 3 days to sell out. So they are out there. Patience.

And, out of that 7 million how many will try even harder to get into reloading just because of the difficulty of finding components ? Americans are a special breed of people that find it hard to settle with the fact "I can't find it" or "It's just not out there."

In other words they don't want it til it's taken away kind of thing.

They still bought/buy ammo

A LOT of people are getting into reloading, equipment is sold out everywhere. All Dillon units have a 3 month wait.
