NRA Classification - Card and 'Decals'?

Shortly after I started in F-Class (F-T/R) I shot in the Missouri State F-Class Midrange Championship in Sept 2013, and qualified as Sharp Shooter. A few weeks later I received the classification card from the NRA, and a set of decals for Sharp Shooter.

In 2014 I shot several matches in the spring and summer, qualified as Expert, and received the classification card, but no decals. Later on, in Sept 2014, I again shot in the Missouri State F-Class Midrange Championship, qualified as Master, and a few weeks later received the classification card and a set of decals for Master.

Several weeks ago I again shot in the Missouri State F-Class Midrange Championship, and qualified as High Master. Today I received the classification card, but no decals.

2013. Sharp Shooter - Card and decals
2014. Expert - Card but no decals
2014. Master - Card and decals
2015. High Master - Card but no decals

So when does the NRA mail the decals with the classification cards; every other classification, at random, or simply when they have the decals on hand?

Just curious . . . ???

THANKS!

Nando

I wasn't aware they gave out decals. Is this a recent thing? But then I've had the same classifications for years.

For all the good that they do, there has always been a lack of consistency with the mailings of such things. My guess is that the Competitions Division hands it off to a support staff for processing and mailing. When I made High Master, I got my card in a few weeks. About a year later I got an NRA Highpower Rifleman award and pin. No letter of explanation or anything like that, just the certificate and the pin.

IMO the department that handles classifications is terribly understaffed and not very receptive to requests. I have politely sent in 4 emails in the past 60 days requesting my updated mid-range card. Always received an " I'll get it in the mail tomorrow" reply. Once I did get a duplicate of my long range card. Maybe by next season I'll receive the correct card...maybe? Eric in DL

They must have read my post from yesterday... got the new card (only) in the mail today. Better late than never, I guess!! Eric in DL

I just today got a certificate and pin for shooting long range HM in F/TR back in May. No decal but I can put the pin on my shooting hat. Guess they felt sorry for me not being able to get to Ben Avery at the moment...

I've found that the NRA cares very little about classification of shooters. I earned a Marksman classification in Service rifle in 2012, quickly shot scores to qualify as Expert, and then found the NRA lost all my scores earned after initial classification.

I believe those that actually work in the office are good people but as noted earlier, they are woefully understaffed.

Good luck getting anything done with NRA Classifications...

My god this thread"s timing is so funny. Just got my hat pin and certificate for making High Master in the mail yesterday. The certificate is dated Nov. 22,2011 I kid you not. They are really on the ball LOL

Gundog,

You should point that out to the NRA. If for no other reason, give the competitions division some ammo to fight for increased resources. It's obvious they are trying to do too much with a lack of bandwidth. A cordial letter would help I'm sure. When I had the snafu with mine, I contacted their department head for the same reason.

Alex, I received my High-Master Card last year and it came with decals.

A couple of months after it came, I checked the store(linked in a post above) to purchase a few extra decals. They had just about everything but F-Class.

I emailed the contact at the NRA store and was told they were out, and there weren't anymore available. That was a year ago and it looks like they still haven't printed any more.

Random, at best.

• Aug 29-30: Match dates

• Oct 16: Classification Card
(Obviously the scores were submitted to the NRA in a timely basis - Thank you, Ryan!)

• Nov 16 (yesterday): From the NRA - Letter, Certificate and Pin!

All in 2015, BTW ;D

What? You got a certificate and pin ?? Those ain't near as fun as the stickers, lol I wish we got patches, I like patches because they last longer than stickers. Lol. Congrats nando on getting your HM so fast and calculated.

Thank you, Mike!

Now I need to work on 1000-yd, so I will be soliciting your help ;D

(I can hardly wait for the 2016 season!)

I went to nramemberservices last night. No stickers. Sent them an email which was answered in 32 minutes. Told me they no longer have them. I don't understand that as we pay dues and pay to shoot matches that they would cut them out. Seems that F-Class is not that important to them. I know....just stickers!

When I got High Master (Across the course) the NRA gave out silver pins with a black ring on it and NRA emblem in center. I have seen a few others over the years so I guess that got too expensive and they went to stickers?

For what it's worth Match Directors can directly entry Match scores to save the NRA the effort of messing them up.
