NRA board election

I haven't been an NRA member for 25 years because of the stupid calls and mailers.

I’m the same way. It started to feel like harassment in our younger married days when we felt like we only had two nickels to rub together anyway. I probably should again now if they would show something worthwhile.
Does the Whittington Center require a membership for use?

Don’t belong to the NRA. As far as the VFW and American Legion go, I can only remember their version of a welcome I got more than 50 years ago.
The DAV and Paralyzed Veterans of America are all I belong to/contribute to.

I'm in a similar predicament. There's only one local club with ranges available that I'd like to be a member of. NRA membership is a requirement, which is a deal breaker for reasons anyone paying attention is very well aware of.

Saves me a lot of money on reloading components.

The two clubs I’m members of both required it to join. I let my NRA membership expire after joining and was never asked to renewal. The indoor one used to push it hard, I took my CCL there in November and they said it’s no longer required. I think some of the older guys have passed and others are seeing WLP for the crook he is.

This same thing has happened at my club.
I BELIEVE exactly, they are realizing that WLP is a crook. The NRA is starting to leave a bad taste in members mouths. A lot of people have lost faith in them. Just like politicians, nothing but lip service!

For Directors I only vote for the women. I figure it will drive the old geezers nuts as well as the liberals. I joined the NRA about 30 years ago as a life member. Once I paid off my membership I never heard from them again. Just get the magazine. And if they ever asked for $$ I'm with the majority and will tell them only after WLP is gone. I've heard good things about GOA so I may send them a few dollars. What would be nice to see is a new organization composed of competitive shooters across all disciplines with the main purpose of keeping records of competitors, scores, and rankings. I would send them a check today.

From one vet to another, Thank you for your service and sorry you had that experience. I am not a VFW member anymore. I got a one year “free” membership and never did anything with it. I have a former co-worker that is a member here locally, but he even complains about how their leadership is.

The private club I am a member of requires NRA membership. I have paid NRA dues usually for at least two yrs at a time. Always get request from them to upgrade, or extend my membership. After ignoring repeated phone calls from the NRA, I answered the phone and let the gal give her spiel about how and why the NRA needed more money, and how the membership dues were not sufficient. After rejecting her second attempt in soliciting more money, I let her know what my opinion of the so called leadership is, and also let her know, if they would cut back on all the mailing,and postage, and phone calls they would have more funding to work with. Got very quiet, finally thanked me for my time. Have not called back since.

Regarding the clubs requiring NRA membership is all due to insurance benefits. The liability insurance for a gun club is extremely expensive. Without the NRAs help most clubs could not afford the insurance.

The club range I use is only 5 miles from my house, 600 yard , several 300 yard, several 100 yards, pistol ranges, trap and skeet ranges. So with that I will continue to pay NRA membership.

If those of you that have posted on this thread really knew what was going on right now in New York many of you would be singing a different tune.

It happens every time an NRA thread appears: All the naysayers chime in on how bad the NRA is, and they will never send them another dime, blah blah blah.

Someone name a single organization, or individual, who has done even a fraction of what the NRA has done, and continues to do, over the years.

So we are to ignore how WLP has abused our money to enrich himself? I think not. They may have done some good, but we deserve better and won't get it unless he press for it. This whole election, if you can view it that way, reeks of corruption. Nobody gets in that WLP doesn't approve. When someone's priorities are clearly on themselves when they ask me for money, I don't blindly throw them money just because they claim to serve my interests.

The NRA has been a dictatorship for many years. No one goes any where with out WLP's OK. WLP needs to be 'run off' and prosecuted.

It seems Oliver North was ousted just before the WLP spending was brought to the forefront. I wondered when the spending questions came out if Oliver North was raising questions.

I believe North was planning to run against WLP, because of the shady money handling. I had a very good conversation with someone years ago about WLP, the man didn't have a handful of documents, but seemed to really know of what he spoke. We were in the back country of the Selway River in Idaho. I also read a book that quoted the NRA financial reports, the reports that didn't go to the membership, but were filed for 501-(C) with the government. The entire board and management of the NRA have failed their feduciary responsibility and need to be held accountable. (jail may get their attention)

If WLP loved the organization, he would step aside for the good of the NRA.
The damage done, whether he did it or not, cannot survive with him at the helm.
Power over time, corrupts. Time limits are needed in many things.

I would add Ted Carter and Patty Clark to this list, they are competitors. However, none of them have had the fortitude to stand up to Wayne so I really don't think voting makes any difference anymore.

Being the NRA is 501 (C) non-profit, all records should be public and open. WLP has received more compensation than others that lead a 501-(C), his wife is also on the payroll, these are facts not "dark side" BS. Many things have been charged to his "expense account" that are not allowed. The man and the board have not full filled their responsibility to the membership. An election is needed with candidates that have and will use their integrity and ethics.
