Now y'all have done it!

Tom started 2 new Kriegers this year, a dasher and a bra. Throat movement was drastically different. The BRA throat moves slower than the dasher throat. Not that I care about barrel life, its all about accuracy. But if your throat jumps during a match your in trouble so I do like the slower erosion of the BRA for that reason. I do not feel neck length has any bearing on accuracy except for neck tension. Obviously the powder and bullet combo of the major can deal with very little. Other cases like the dasher and ppc seem to need a good amount of it. I thought the smallest group was a stewart?
Most people shooting a small 30 use around .004" neck tension and the bullet rarely seats below the sized portion of the neck. Given the difference in bullet diameter and neck contact in the circumference..with all else equal, the 30 would have about 21% more neck contact area. The Stewart IS a 30 Major...a 6.5 Grendel necked up to 30. I designed it in 01/2007. Actually, that's when I got my 1st reamer for it. It's a wildcat...you can call it whatever you want. It's the same thing.

I was under the impression they pushed the shoulder back on the Grendel case to make the Stewart? Less capacity than the major. At least from memory. I will need to look it up.

No, I'm saying it's a 6.5 Grendel necked up to 30. They started by using 220 Russian brass blown out, until they figured out that there was Grendel brass available. They unintentionally went the long way around. Then they used Grendel brass. The final dimension is within a few thou of just that. They put the cart in front of the horse, but it did work. Ask him for a print.

He probably won't share it but I've had one in my shop and will quantify " a few thou" by saying it's more than a one human hair different but far less than a dozen. Lol!

For the BRAI I guess only time will tell, but it's certainly of to a good start and has good pedigree so there's no telling where it could end up.

Cheers Rushty

Yes mate it's on order.
Take a look at what were doing with 6mm.........6PPC can cure cancer....then it cant........6BR is better due to larger case.......then we need more speed so we go to Dasher....things looking good and now were setting back dashers to make BRA's or going back so to speak
where we were capacity wise.....a sorta 6BRish shootinzoomer.....I gave up bench shooting because of this and just shoot big mulies and antelope with my 6BR's and it makes no difference....just finished a 6BR rifle for wolves as it tips mulies over right now so have fun with your BRA's as it wont be long and the 6BR will be the new wonderbread.........Ron Oates/Montana Outfitters

Thank you Ron I'm sure I will have fun with the BRA, I have a straight BR in the safe to which is a tack driver.. good luck wth the wolves.

You gave up on Benchrest because we change cartridges so much? First off 6 ppc is short range not long range, and has been king for a very long time, still is. The dasher has been king in long range for over 10 years, and still is. 6br is still popular at 600. We change cartidges about every decade or two. Most guys probably build 5 new rifle by the time a new case comes along. Where did you compete in Benchrest and what discipline?

James, now chamber up a 12 twist barrel and send some of Barts 80 gr. bt. down range with 8208 and it will make you smile......... Jim

^^^ +2 on this post. That combination just flat out works with Bart's or 80gr Precision Ballistics boat tails with the 6/9 ogive. JME. WD

I have no doubt that a 6BRAI will shoot...but where does this voodoo magic come from? What makes it better than a 6BR, BRX, BRDX, or a Dasher? Trust me, I'm all about new stuff and proving things out. I realize that small differences can and do matter, but the claims are a little too good to believe.

I have only been shooting F-class for 6 years, and started out with a straight 6BR, graduated to the BRX, and built the BRAI after talking to a friend who has been shooting the chambering for MR benchrest for about 4 years. We discussed all the different dimensions and what loads seemed to work for 105 class bullets prior to ordering a reamer. I have watched others talk about load data, and velocities, wondering how they get as much powder as they do into a case without pressure problems. There is obviously many different ways to go with reamer dimensions and still call it a BRAI. The cases were easy to form, (I used the COW method) and was able to find a high and low node that work well for me. Having a well built rifle is a must to start, but I found it easy to get a load worked up, and brass is on it's 4th firing without any loose pockets or other pressure signs (400 pieces).

Alex is spot-on with the velocity range that I have found to work (2985). For me that is 31.7 grains of Varget in a 30" barrel. I don't hold any national records like some who are using it, but can honestly say that it has improved my scores and is competitive with any of the dasher and brx chamberings that I shoot against. Is it better than them;...not sure, but it is fun having something different than the normal, and beating them once in awhile.

You guys really ought to not make fun of using people EBT cards. Why just this morning I talked to a to a homeless man and asked him how he ended up this way.
He said, "Up until last week, I still had it all. I had plenty to eat, my clothes were washed and pressed, I had a roof over my head, I had TV and Internet, and I went to the gym, the pool, and the library. I was working on my MBA on-line. I had no bills and no debt. I even had full medical coverage."
I felt sorry for him, so I asked, "What happened? Drugs? Alcohol? Divorce"?
"Oh no, nothing like that," he said. “No, no… I was paroled.”

So you are saying that,Tom just got out of prison?:D

hey guys just question
why use H4895 over varget? when i was using my 6BR i used ADI 2208/varget as it was the powder to use having tried 2206H and RL15 in my gun, i now shoot 6BRX and i found it easy to tune like my 6BR and i still use ADI 2208/varget (32.4gr with 105gr hybrids)
H4895 is equivalent to our ADI 2206H which is a faster powder, just wondering why this over the varget
