Now y'all have done it!

Life was good and my Dasher shot okay, but there are those out there who know how weak shooters can be.:( Now there are those who stay up at night developing new cartridges that we cannot afford to be without. I am talking about Sam Hall, Alex Wheeler, Tim Claunch, and Jim O'Hara......plus a few more perhaps. You know that as a retired teacher, I can't afford to "keep up with the Jones's".;) Having two Dasher barrels, I decided to sacrifice one to join the 6 BRA revolution. Bart Sauter rescued me to some degree and said I could use his reamer for my project. Billy Stevens agreed to cut off the tenon of my 28" Brux barrel and rechamber it. I called Harrell's Precision and they are going to shorten a Dasher FL die for me to use.

I still have my Bartlein barrel chambered for the Dasher, and if the 6 BRA doesn't want to shoot, I guess that I can always use the Dasher.

I would have preferred a new barrel for this test, but that definitely was not in the cards at this time.

Are all BR shooters as crazy as me? Good shooting.....James

Most are crazier. I saw a BRA in action and immediately wanted one. Then I saw a fireforming target a few days later from the same barrel & had to have one. At 100 yards, shooting a thrown charge of Varget, no flags, 108gr pills... I think it agged in the low 2s for five 5 shot groups. I'd never seen anything like it. One of these days I'll have something very similar to try.

James, welcome to the club! I may be just as much a loony, as I found a Brux 1.200 straight taper in my stash, and saw it had a new set back to Dasher, but crazy as it sounds, I put it in the lathe this morning and it became a BR-AI !!

The nice thing about the bra is its so easy. If it dont shoot, its not the case. These things tune up so easy and seem to hold it better. I'll never own another dasher at this point. I like it so much and have chambered so many I ordered my first ever carbide reamer. I have a lot of faith this little case will take over big time.

It's posts like this that made me order a reamer for a BRAI (JGS)...only 8 weeks or so and counting.

Cheers Rushty

When is that reamer due in? I'll send a new barrell

I have no doubt that a 6BRAI will shoot...but where does this voodoo magic come from? What makes it better than a 6BR, BRX, BRDX, or a Dasher? Trust me, I'm all about new stuff and proving things out. I realize that small differences can and do matter, but the claims are a little too good to believe.

I've now been on both sides of a 6.5 Grendel...necking it up to 30 and necking it down to 6mm. I've played with several Dashers, even more BRs. some BRX's and a few BRDX's.

On necking up a Grendel...I do think it is better than a 30BR, but that's after many barrels and God knows how many bullets fired. After all of that, over the last 10 years of shooting one, it still comes down to bullets, barrels and not pulling the trigger at the wrong time. The other differences are there, but small. I'm sure it's a great cartridge. It has to be...being that it falls so closely to so many other great ones....

but, I'm not sold yet.

p.s.--The jury is still out on my 6 Grendel, but it does show a lot of promise. It has a large hill to climb, unseating a PPC in short range, or any of the long range BR based cartridges in long range. And I'm not sure there is any benefit of a Grinch over the straight 6 Grendel. I guess I'm just a bit of a skeptic, but I do enjoy the ride and think there are still gains to be made over what is today considered by many to be the end all, be all cartridges..in short and long range.

Pros of the bra,
2985 node in a 28" barrel, no speed lose to a dasher
easier/fool proof fireforming, no jamming, false shoulders, hydro, exc.
Longer neck, flame point is inside, longer throat life, throat moves less rifle stays in tune better
One of the best LR shooter suddenly puts down back to back low 3's for 10. Only ever shot one before
I have chambered a lot of these, 20-30, feedback is quite different than dasher feedback
Im 110% convinced its a better case
When you see some of the best switching to it, there is a reason
Makes no difference to me, I didnt sell my dasher reamers :)

I agree with all of that. I'm really not a huge Dasher fan, for many of the reasons you stated, except I'm not 100% sold on barrel life being better due to a longer neck. That's theory, at best, for now. There may or may not be something to it. One could also say that barrels have improved. Maybe it's happened since several makers have started honing the bores. Maybe it's due to better bullets or jackets. I don't know, but there are other variables that, IMHO, are more important than shoulder ange or neck length.

If neck length and shoulder angle were so important, a 30 Major probably wouldn't hold the current record for smallest 5 shot 100 yard group ever fired...and barrel life is far superior to any 6mm in the same class. The neck is shorter than that of a 30 BR but I can't tell a diffence in brass life but I do feel it has some advantage in accuracy over a 30BR..albeit, a small difference.

Tom started 2 new Kriegers this year, a dasher and a bra. Throat movement was drastically different. The BRA throat moves slower than the dasher throat. Not that I care about barrel life, its all about accuracy. But if your throat jumps during a match your in trouble so I do like the slower erosion of the BRA for that reason. I do not feel neck length has any bearing on accuracy except for neck tension. Obviously the powder and bullet combo of the major can deal with very little. Other cases like the dasher and ppc seem to need a good amount of it. I thought the smallest group was a stewart?
