NOW WHAT?

My 401, well it is down almost 30%. Since I am still working, the contributions to my 401 are purchasing stocks at a discount so the number of shares are greater. When the market recovers, which it will, I will be better off.

I am also looking for some stocks to invest in at this time.
I called my "guy" and told him to put some money in any American Company that makes hand sanitizer!:D

Too bad that Purell is a privately owned company. :(

Looking at the various companies that I might be interested in. Most are down about ~30% (looking over a 6 month performance). Making 20% on your money is nothing to sneeze about. Now the petroleum companies are down almost 50% (Same period). They are getting a double hit from the Virus and from the Russia/Saudi battle.

the market is slowly tanking
"slowly"? how quickly we moved from 'dang, should've bought more xyz'. my biggest gripe is the way mutual funds must payout yearly.... meaning we potentially have a huge tax burden in the very same year we lost 'yuge'...

(ps. which in turn might cause liquidation of the depreciated assets to service the tax debt.... )

Fortunately traffic to the range was less than normal today
and i filled up for $1.94/gal yesterday. with people soon to be out of work, don't tell me everyday will be like the weekends :(

seriously, though, i feel for anyone needing medical care not related to COVID-19, whether urgent or routine. and for the healthcare providers.

It's only cyber money you're loosing - if you don't panic and can afford to wait out the market swings it will rebound - it always does assuming the virus doesn't kill off most of the world's population and the world descends into anarchy then it won't matter whether you have stocks / bonds or cash. Commodities will be the real wealth if you can protect them from the social predators.

While the Federal Reserve is suppose to focus it's monetary policy on controlling inflation, it often manipulates monetary policy to protect the market which it isn't suppose to do. So you have that also going for you if you're in the market and young enough to wait it out.

Personally, being an well advanced senior I got out of the market years ago because I couldn't ride out the ups and downs at my age. My father had a saying, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I'm in the latter category.:( The economy is manipulated but the very wealthy and powerful - read the history of the 29' crash - hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist but read the history and judge for yourself. We are just pawns - available for sacrifice - sorry didn't mean to get preachy.

I'm okay. My Church has an investment program that loans out money to churches (well established) for building additions. I get 5% guaranteed interest, and my principal is secured. If they default, look up in the skies for a dude in a chariot waving a flaming sword...

There are "church bonds" that trade in the marketplace. To my knowledge, there has never been a default among them.

This was a real problem with the DotCom bubble. Blew up a lot of investors who couldn't pay their tax bills.....

For 38 years I have been helping my clients prosper in the Stock Market.
We were ready for this and are looking for bargains.

Kool heads will prosper.
And there is boat load out there. This whole downturn in the market was caused by ..............what.............a virus. Had nothing to do with a companies profitability until
the panic. What's the latest count of infected,, 1000 plus some. Maybe we don't have as many infected because of the steps we're taking. I bet it's cutting down on the number of
regular influenza cases as well. People being more self consciences. Wish I had an extra million of Blumberg's money to put in the market right now.:oops:

I retired in 2014 at age 57 from a low level management position (not a rich CEO) because I invested in good companies starting in the early 90’s and sold nothing during the many short sell-off’s.
Stay calm, breath deeply and shoot bulk rimfire until the market recovers. And it will, in months not years.;)

Came across this on the internet. Many of her predictions have come true.

I get dumber the older I get. Following 911 I invested a chunk in airline stocks. People who I thought were intelligent told me I was a fool. I told them that the fall was pure emotion. Doubled my money within a month or so. Yesterday I ran over to BAT at Stateline ID and dropped 500 bucks on a new bolt with a standard bolt face for my VR action thinking I'll turn it into a switch barrel for mag and standard calibers. Had I put that money into airline or cruise line stocks it would be double or triple within 3-6 months. I should know better.
