Not a Great Day for a Chamber (Pics Added)

Just cut another .020" with a second reamer. No change. I think the marks are a flaw in the barrel. Talking with barrel maker and customer.

I have a Hawkeye borescope. And while its images are not equaled, I can't take pics with it. They don't seem to offer the camera adapter anyone.

You can feel these marks with an angled probe tool, so they would mark brass.

Also, the reputation of the shop has been built on our outstanding customer service and good shooting rifles, of which I have chambered them all. I simply can't settle. I treat every barrel as if it was going on one of my LRBR rifles.

It's a 260 Rem on a Stiller Tac 30. While I dislike protruding bolt noses and sandwiched recoil lugs, in this case it's a good thing. I can set the barrel back a turn and clean everything up, and you'll never be able to tell.

I have never seen anything like these marks before. I am guessing something went away in the reamer while I was using it.
I just ordered a camera for my Hawkeye last week. Plugs into a usb. It comes with software to record video too. I have not been able to post pics or video since I gave my teslong away.

Yep. That’s why all stick to power generation and do the rifle thing on the side. Seems like you spend 1000 to make a 100.

Farm hand to Gm mechanic to oil field mechanic to power generation to lineman with a splash of electrician, welder, machinist, and gunsmith thrown in on the side. I might actually get good at something if I stuck with it for more than a few yrs at a time. But I've never spent a single day without a job, although in today's society that's probably not respected any more.

These days theyll call you a sucker

I wouldn't do this as a main job. I could retire if I wanted, but I really ought to work a couple more years.

Fortunately, I have my USAF retirement, a small pension form another company, and my wife's business. This is for "fun" and to support my hobbies. I also believe in what the company is doing and where it's headed.

The sophomore phase--which is where I am now, always sucks. I have achieved enough success at enough things to know this well.

When we start it's all motivation and beginner's luck. In the sophomore phase we know a lot more, have done a lot more, and see a lot more weird stuff. We think we should have it all figured out by this phase but because we are reaching higher the problems are harder.

All I can say now is "this too will pass"......

So I can't say 100% that it was a defect in the barrel. I guess its possible that even with a high flow flush and 140 RPM to get a chip weld, though the mark seems awfully big for that.

Regardless, It's time for me to get a pusher. Too many of you have told me it prevents stuff like this from happening, and I am still refining my methods.

I told the barrel company that I wasn't sure it was a barrel issue, but I asked them to send a new barrel so I could take care of this customer. I said then we can sort out fault. If it's mine, I'll take the hit. I care more about my and the company's reputation--with both customers and vendors-- than I do with "winning" the barrel argument.

Hopefully you’ll leave enough time in your life for the fun things ~like shooting LR
