Chamber reaming ?

New barrel blanks will not have hard spots. If they did, the barrel maker would have found it. Used barrels are a crap shoot, which is why a lot of people refuse to rechamber them. Hard carbon and locallized hardening in the fire cracking can play hell on reamers.
does that mean a person shouldnt chamber a used barrel at all or it would be ok if you cut enough of the old chamber off—- thanks Walt

I borescope a used barrel to see if it's even worth doing. I have got some really good used barrels that shoot. If you have the equipment and know how, You can put together some good shooters for little coin if you gather stuff up used here and there.

Brand new takeoff Tikka barrels were very cheap a few years ago, And I used a lot of them, But now they sell for good money. But you can still find good barrels cheap if you are patient.

Tikka barrels work good for anything that has 1 inch 16 tpi like Win model 70's and Rugers, Mosins Etc. Just have to pick up the threads and adjust tenon length.

does that meen youre looking for cracking? when i started chambering i got a couple used fclass strait taper 6mm barrels to practice on. they were long enough i could cut the firecracking off and still have useable length. those barrels shot pretty good. dont know if i damaged my reamers though. i also got a couple SRBR used 6mm barrels. slow twist. still have one on a rifle in 6br and its amazing how good it still shoots. im just moving away from used barrels these days anyway and want to protect my reamers if i can.
But i have this ABC barrel in 6br thats been the most accurate barrel i have ever had. i will cry when it gives up the ghost. firecracked a few inches now with prob 2500 rnds on it I was wanting to try a rechamber but mabie its time to say goodbye— thanks sniper

If I see pitting or other defects in the bore, I am not going to waste my time trying to use that barrel. Most times I cut the old chamber off. But in the case of the Tikka Barrels, I like to get the 24 inch varmint ones and I utilize as much of the barrel as I can, So I pickup the threads and mimic the tenon of what I am fitting it to.
For instance, I have a very good shooting Mosin I chambered in 6.5 PRC that started life as a new takeoff Tikka barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor. The tenon needs to be made longer and the tenon diameter is 0.980. So I pickup the threads and adjust the diameter and length to fit that action and rechamber.
