I finally made it out last night and got to stretch the legs of my 25-06 Aclkey a little bit. I was having some issues with load development with 115VLDs, so made a quick switch to 100gr Nosler BTs. Groups got to what I consider acceptable for varmint hunting, so on I went. First shot of the evening was 304 yards. Put 1.5 minutes on the elevation and hit a little high in the back. Second shot of the evening was 630 yards. Ran it into Bulletflight, as I had no data past 200 yards worked up. Sqeezed the round off and thanks to the muzzle brake, centered the crosshairs back on the animal before the bullet impacted as a clean miss. Lowered the elevation from 9MOA down to 7.75, favored about 1MOA for wind and rolled it. DRT. I'll post a few pictures this evening.

Happy hunting!

Sounds like you had fun with your rifle. My son and i made it out last nite for some chucking here in northern Crawford county and we nailed 9 in about an hour and a half. Where abouts you located?

Frank

We are in the same region. I hunted Spartansburg last night. My dad has some property on the border of Erie/Crawford, and I work in the Cambridge Springs area.

Im in Northeast Pa and all the working farms now have gas wells on them. Most of them aren't even cutting the fields cuz they no longer need the money. Who ever thought all these dairy farmers would become millionaires on Natural gas. I cant say they dont deserve it cuz they have lived a tough life doing what they were raised to do. Im going to start traveling out of the area to find some new chucking property.

The gas well guys are moving north into Crawford and Erie county at this time and it is the talk everywhere locally amongst landowners. It will probably be the end of an era, and who will grow the food 20 years from now? Does not look good. But I deviated from talking about chuck hunting. Sorry fellas. :)

I also live in Crawford Country and "Charlie" hunting is a passion. Finding it more difficult to find good fields to shoot. Sad day !!

I'm very familiar with Crawford County and the southern part of Erie County myself.. I live in Mercer County, I notice the area farmers are letting the hay fields grow longer for silage, plus an increase of corn was planted this year..

Rupe, urban sprawl has messed up a few of my good hunting areas. I was out in south eastern Erie county last night. Nailed one at 578 and 238. I really need to take a day and do a long drive through some side roads to gain more access. I'm considering a NY state license next year also.

22XC Guy, Mercer is a nice county. Seems that the only time I'm in Mercer is on I-79S a few times a week. Do you ever stop over at Twigg's Reloading?

Grew up in Venango county but could throw a stone to the Mercer county line. Instead of going 5 miles to Lakeview I went 20+ miles to Franklin.

In Michigan now and just dont find the places near me to hunt Phil.

i hunt same 400 acres all the time. if you don't hit on first shot you better change your hold and fire quick or they're outta there. ;D

civil82, Yeah, Twiggy has a good "average size" line of reloading supplies, sometimes it's quicker to call her first, if in a pinch.. Elite Firearms on Route 18 Hermitage is the place to go, good section of hardware, including class III..

fr3db3ar, Been over to Lakeview and Sandy Lake area, never shooting, mostly little league and high school sports activities watching my kids play.. Franklin, only travel through on my way to the Pennzoil plant years ago, but Mauer's Trading Post and down hill to Gun World, I could get in deep trouble going home..LOL
