Norma 6Dasher Brass

Just a heads up.

We have had a couple of calls where the cases were too tight in the rim/base area to fit into the standard shell holder.

1) We have spoken to Redding and they are making a special batch of No. 1 shell holders that are plus .004" in the slot and we should be getting them by the end of next week.
2) We have also ordered a special cutter (due to arrive tomorrow) and will program our CNC machine so we can skim off a few thou from the existing shell holders. That way we can satisfy some of the people that need them in a hurry in case these cases do not fit their shell holders. Those should be available for purchase by the end of the week.

Has anyone complained about the brass being tight on bolts/extractors?

I tried the tightest case in two of the custom actions I have here including a Borden and they were just fine. If there are issues on tight extractor claws, we are talking less than a couple of thousands on an inch which can be honed down in a few minutes.

Roger that.....!!! I have a Borden BRM so I'm not going to sweat it!

SteveOak I don't know what I'd do without guys like you to take care of me. Are you sure 200 will do it???

I like the absolute refusal for some one to measure a laded round Neck Diameter...guess I will have to buy 100 to find out...

Russ,

I should have mine this weekend. I'll put a few together and send you an average. I will have the reamer for this case too once PTG catches up. Probably next month. It will reside with Tim when it gets here.

Edit: won't be here until the 27th.

Most are gonna turn anyway, so measuring loaded brass out of the box is pointless... By a 100 or 2 and have at what you will... I do believe brass thickness has been stated more then once...

Dittos there - - I have posted 3 posts above asking that exact question with no reply at all - - - bizarre!! All kinds of reloaders getting the brass but no one loads a bullet in the brass to find out how it loads out without trimming, turning, etc.?

Neck turn? I have a Gracey in mothballs because I refuse to neck turn. Too much life is wasted prepping brass.

You have me wondering now if the reamer Bullets.com spec'd for this brass is a no-neck turn reamer..... I though I read it was but now I don't remember.

The "load it and shoot it" guys seem to be in a severe minority on this thread since it seems the first thing most of the responders on this thread do is have a "brass processing party" with their new brass - - ahh what great fun, processing brass - - not my idea of fun but hey maybe I am just the aardvark here.

Honestly, other than the reamer design I have made up for this brass (which I will post on this thread shortly) I have yet to see a reamer design for this new brass that is appropriate for a guy who just loves to shoot and just wants to "load it and shoot it" without neck turning or trimming the stuff or fiddling with something. In truth there's also a whole big marketplace of shooters like that out there but they are not always those who frequent a forum thread such as this.

Looking at the print, .272" is the neck size. If my math is right, that only leaves .002" clearance if I don't turn. Starting to think maybe I made a mistake on this reamer....

FWIW - - for a "no neck turn" reamer for factory brass, I would be careful going on the tight side. IMO .002" is too tight, and .003" is a risky minimum from the perspective I have had stringing issues at longer ranges which I attributed, after testing, to lack of adequate neck clearance (i.e. in so far as .003" might be fine if the neck metal is perfect and a precise thickness all the way around, but that can be an exceptional situation even with premium brass). I have not found an extra .001" or .002" of clearance to cause any issues, so I now tend to go with .004" or even .005" over a loaded round, especially when you might run into lot to lot variations of brass neck thickness or some cases with thick spots on one side of the neck brass. IMO, with a "no neck turn" set up, a clean bullet release is worth more than trying to channel the bullet into a tighter collar by trying to keep the neck clearance down to the point of being "on the edge" of too close. Just my opinion FWIW.

P.S. Look at how well some of the Palma chambers shoot and the neck clearance they have. Jerry Tierney, before he passed away, had some testing data with chambers that were .008" over loaded rounds and he shot phenomenal groups with them.

The neck thickness has been posted! .012X to.013X, double and you have what you need.

For me that's one of those "I'm from Missouri, show me" moments. Doing it by the math just has not always yielded the same results as just loading it up and measuring it loaded. Call me a "doubting Thomas" but maybe I am just a bit cynical from having been "burned" too many times by some little ditty that changed the dynamics of the situation.
