Norma 6Dasher Brass

How long is the neck on this new brass?

If you use bushing dies, take care it's not longer than the bushings are tall... or you'll be running necks up into contact with the bushing stop nut.

Always fixable by adding a second, larger ID bushing on top of the one you regularly use of course, gives you some latitude over crushed necks....

FYI - I ordered a couple hundred pieces of Norma 6 Dasher brass yesterday. Was told there were still a few, hundred boxes, available from this first plane shipment. My assumption is the 500 rd boxes may all be accounted for.

My email came in and said my shipment is expected to arrive May23, however my reamer isn't expected to be ready until July24. That's going to push me too far to get a barrel done and tested prior to the state championship. Such is life, as long as her 6BR keeps shooting it's no biggie I guess.

Saw this question raised on another forum and hadn't considered it previously... wondering if any of you have input on this.

The micrometer seating dies from Redding/Forster have a sliding sleeve that fully encases the cartridge so that it is held concentric while the bullet is being seated. This sliding sleeve is cut out just like a rifle chamber with room for the neck and a "freebore" where the bullet rides when being seated. It's designed to index off the shoulder of the case and the spring tension in the die holds it in place while the seating is happening.

Is there enough space in the seating die "chamber" to allow the longer neck to fit? Or is the case going to index off the leading edge of the longer neck?

Is that a problem if it indexes off the end of the neck rather than the case shoulder, given that the only pressure on the case is from the spring?

I'm considering building a Dasher for non-competitive shooting and hunting uses; I like its balance of recoil, efficiency, accuracy, barrel life, feeding from an AICS magazine and ability to standardize my reloading components to a single powder and primer. That said, I understand simply using a 6BR load and a jam to fireform isn't ideal but the false-shoulder process of forming Lapua 6BR brass would be new to me and seems like a bit more work than I'd like to undertake.

If the juice is worth the squeeze I can certainly learn..but Norma Dasher brass solves that fireforming issue, but obviously there's the neck length to contend with.

Is there any reason one couldn't get Norma Dasher brass then trim back to 1.545" prior to loading and firing in a "standard" Dasher chamber?

Probably a stupid question...apologies if it has been asked upthread but thanks for the insight!

Sure you could shorten the neck if you want to, I`m going to do that at first, so I don`t have to lengthen the chamber I already have.

I bought 200 pieces so I could run some of it through the ringer and then, if it lives, cut another chamber and play with it at the longer neck length.

No reason at all. My reamer should cut a 1.560" chamber. I plan to trim the Norma brass back to 1.555" and fire away. Stock Whidden dies will work fine.

My only concern is how the primer pockets hold up. Not too bueno in the 300WSM brass I'm using in my 7-300WSM gun but I understand things are different (double stamped heads) on this batch. Good luck!

That sleeve is not hardened and the die can be disassembled sleeve removed and put in the lathe, run new longer neck reamer in, presto....

Just came back from the NRA show where I met with Norma and also brought home about 30 pieces of the new brass. Nice looking stuff.

The air shipment has already been packed and is awaiting the permit from Swedish authorities. The shipment should be leaving this coming week and then take about a week to 10 days total to clear US Customs and be delivered here.

As soon as the shipment hits we will be having 4 to 5 people work furiously to get them all out to the customers that have ordered them. We have a lot of orders for them!

Thanks, guys!!

OK..I'm too lazy to go back and read this whole thread..but to those of you who have done the homework on this new brass, will this new brass fit in a chamber tat has been cut for Lapua Brass?(I know the necks will have to be trimmed way back) I.E....the new 284 win brass will not work in a chamber cut for Lapua 6.5x284 brass..assuming that it will work, my current die's should be fine then..

He posted a print for the reamer so you can compare it to available Lapua prints. His reamer is close to my reamer specs so depending on the actual brass numbers, I would assume they would work well in a Lapua chamber. His reamer is .4708 at the .200 line and mine is .4707. All the other differences are around the neck and throat because his is no-turn. Overall case length in mine is 1.5550 and his is 1.605 which fine with me. I'll have to trim off a little more but I still have more room than what I'm able to get from Lapua at this time.
