Is the sonic crack any smaller for a 17 as opposed to a 22, or 6mm? I live in a area that is heavily wooded and I think as fragile as a 17 bullet is it would be safe, but if it was too loud that would kill the deal. A suppressor would be perfect but you guys know whats involved with that.

Shoot standard velocity 22LR ammo - no sonic crack at all as they are sub sonic.

CB caps are super quiet. out of a rifle, no hearing protection is needed--but recommended with a pistol.

Yes I am talking about centerfire my goal is crow sized stuff at 200 on a still day. I have shot CB caps and they are quiet you can hear the hammer hit but they are only good for 50 yards max on beer cans.

What is the 20 calhoun based on? Can I get good dies? I don't have the machines to build my own dies anymore.

Mr Calhoun's stuff is definitely neat, and if I move somewhere else it will be a consideration but I need quiet without reinventing the wheel. Did you know that the reason suppressors were outlawed was during a similar time back in the 30's the game wardens were afraid poaching would get out of hand with people trying to eat it had nothing to do with crime.
