Noise Complaints ranges deal with

If it's mandatory, on top of everything else?

You tell me where that leads if you've been buying components lately.
That Tax Stamp waiver might not be permanent, if it's ever enacted as well. Let some political group get that adjusted for inflation.

My local range has the roof spray foamed. Lots of it is flaking off when someone with a muzzle brake shoots. Could not tell you how long its been up there, 15 years maybe. While i do have supressors, they are for hunting. When i take a fun gun to the range its un supressed since most no one there has them.

I was on the BOD of our local trap club for a few years. There were a few rental properties down the road and you always knew when a new renter moved in. We shot every Thursday night and I'd answer the phone and it would be the same woman. She'd call 10+ times a day. For a while it was "my dog is scared of gunfire and ran off (again), you HAVE to stop shooting!" Me, Ma'am we've been shooting every Thursday night for over 50 years, we stop at 9pm, her NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND YOU HAVE TO STOP SHOOTING! This went on for months. Finally we all just started inviting her to shoot with us and she'd just get mad and hang up.

On another front I have a good friend who's a pilot lives in a very expensive rural coastal community with their own private airport which because of the rural location is quite beneficial. A woman lawyer who is heavily tied to Democratic Party and her husband moved in a few years ago to one of the homes that's closest to runway, maybe 150 yards away. They immediately after moving in demanded that the airport be closed. They have been huge PITA and got a few other home owners to side with them and threatened lawsuits and complaints to the FAA. She finally got a dose of her own medicine. They are divorcing and moving. She found out her husband in his mid 50's was having an affair with an 80+ year old women on the BOD that was one of their anti airport allies, LOL!

Gotta love them Democrats! lol.

Isn’t it something. Some idiot buys a house near a gun range and then complains about the noise.
Lawsuits are being filed by liberals for a lot of reasons. Lead exposure, noise “pollution”, air pollution. They just want them gone.
The ONLY reasonable complaint is “bullets leaving the range”. A few idiot members can get a range shut down because of it.

A shooting club I belonged to in eastern PA back in the '80s had a number of complaints from a new housing development built a short distance (probably less than a 1/4 mile) to the left of the ranges. Club has been there since the 1920s, if I remember right. This was about the time of the big influx of Joisey folks & New Yawkers into PA. It went nowhere. The road to get to the development from both directions was called... wait for it... Gun Club Rd. Imagine that.

The DCM monthly shoots were run by the retired police chief from town with 20-30 guys shooting mostly M1s & M1As rapid fire Saturday mornings starting at 9.

Atglen? I’m a member there.

Maine has a law that protects ranges from noise complaints....if the range was there and you build in the area then complain about the noise, you loose! Caveat emptor!

That was the primary reason the Chabot Gun Club (Castro Valley, CA) was shut down. A new neighbor of mine (in the neighborhood - not someone I know) was probably the most vocal, having lived there for all of a couple of months. The regional park district took those complaints and ran with it (though to be fair, the people running the range at the time were pretty incompetent fighting the closure, also.)

Shot the SC Across the Course state championship in October. Due to the increased development in the area, I asked the match director if they were having any issues. He said SC law will protect the range as long as they don't change what they are doing.

A church bought some land near the range to build on. Some of their members came to the range and asked if they would not fire until after noon to accommodate services. The range told them: "Respectfully, no. We've been operating this way for 30 years and will continue to operate like this." The MD told me that if they had changed their schedule to accommodate the church, that might have been grounds to argue a substantial change had been made which would have affected their grandfathering protection and caused a reevaluation of noise effects. "Church should have been more diligent when selecting their building location."

There are signs on the road "shooting range noise area" IAW state law. One of the new developments put an entrance road pretty much next to this sign within the last year.

Just as a point to suppressors, I work on a military installation. Across the road from the building I work from is one of the live fire and maneuver ranges. When a whole unit comes in with suppressors on the rifles (typically a unit about to go out on a MEU), the noise is substantially reduced. Still have the supersonic crack headed downrange, but, again overall noise from the rifles is very substantially reduced. Especially when you consider an observer several hundred feet away.
