No Modern 6.5x55 Love?

I thought a modern 6.5-55 was a 260 Remington. It can be in a short action, no weird base diameter????

THE "Modern" 6.5, is the 6.5 Creedmoor, In a Short action, with almost the same,.. Power / Velocity.
A "No Brainer" over, the old .260 Rem Needing,.. a Long action if, using High BC, Long Bullets.

The tikkas are appealing however I don’t know what chassis system would accept a magazine combination

Ok so the Creedmoor is slower so it can use a shorter action with longer bullets, another compromise. I guess it's better if you drank the Hornaday Koolade. I have owned 260s way before Hornaday even had the pitcher out. If you want a real 6.5 with little or no compromises get a 6.5-284.

Any issues running in a cip length mag?

There does not seem to be many options for the 3.5 length mags

6.5x47 Lapua runs much better in short actions vs the Creed case, practically the same velocity also.

I’m shooting an old Tikka 595 actioned gun with a nut barrel. With Sierra 120s and 123 Lapua Scenars, the cartridges fit in the factory mags and Lapua brass fits in the bolt face. The 595s were the short action and the 695s were the long action.

6.5/284 = 6.5/06

been waiting for 6.5x284. more modern, more powder, more powerful. there are tradeoffs of course. I do like the 6.5 Swede. I think the 7mm mauser case is great, and the Swede is close to it.

Just don't put the 6.5x284 on a short action, I learned that lesson the hard way! Repeater for hunting. IF you do want to run on a short action, I would run a Remington action with a Wyatts extended mag box.
