Hello all, can anyone clarify the difference in these two models ? I guess what get me is the comp model has a stronger power than the br model. I thought that would be opposite. Thanks fellas
Night force competition vs benchrest

The Comp Model is a 15X55X52 with 5 MOA per turret rotation and 1/8 MOA clicks. It does have side parallax adjustment and a fine focus adjustment on the eye piece. It also weighs about 7 ounces less than the NF BR and NXS scopes. The glass is also a higher quality ED glass. All in all, an excellent product. I am very pleased with mine.
A few things are diffeent, most are mentioned here already. One draw back to the competition model is the slim choice in reticle's, the BR model has the best of the Nighforce choice in reticles.

Can you get a zero stop with them?
No! Zero stop is not available on the Competition Model.

I have looked AT TARGETS thru BOTH the Benchrest and the Competition models. I have LASIK corrected eyes (I am no spring chicken anymore) and I could not distinguish any difference in the clarity or "crispness" of the lenses. I have 5 NightForce scopes, 4 Benchrest and 1 NSX>>> of them I like the Benchrest model best>>If not, I would have the NSX'x but I see no REAL reason to pay extra $$$'s to what, arguably, is only personal differences in the scopes. Just my 2 cents worth...
Have had mine for a while now & ran it thru its' first competition benchrest varmint for score match. No complaints.
In a horse race it would beat my Benchrest models "by a nose".
Mirage this particular day was heavy and with any optics, no matter the cost, the Competition model is just as limited (in usable magnification) as the BR models, both around 35 to 40x on this day.
Like the DDR reticle very much, as I do the 2DD's on the BR models.
Did notice when I first started using it that the clicks felt "mushy" and "soft", not positive like on the BR's. But after using it a few times they are now the same as the Benchrest's, positive, more resistance & you can hear them "clicking" into the detents. Maybe the lube(?) they apply to the adjustments needed to be worked into place(?)

There are differences other than weight compared to the 12X42 BR scopes. The eye relief is about 1/4 inch longer and the Competition scope has 60X60 MOA elevation range versus 40X40 MOA for the BR. I had a 21X42 BR model when I only had a 6mmBR and I always had problems getting down to a 100 yard zero with a 20 MOA rail. I also was hit in the eye a couple of times when I switched to a 7mm with the same gun and scope. I have not had either problem with the NXS or Competition scopes. Which to buy probably depends on the shooting you do.

I am well aware of the technical differences. All I am saying, which is my solid opinion, the only REAL advantage of the Competition model is the light weight. Optically or mechanically, its no better than an NXS. Its a real shame the 12-42 NXS is discontinued.

I will also miss the 12X42X56 NXS. I was referring just to the BR scope which gave me some problems for F-Class. It probably wouldn't be a problem for BR or other things I don't shoot. I've got two of the NXSs with the NP-R1 reticle and 0.125 MOA clicks and that is my preferred setup. I have one rifle that needs the lighter scope to make weight so I have the Comp on that one. I hope they decide to offer the NP-R1 on the Comp and I'll have mine changed if they do. I shot the Comp and the NXS on Friday practice and the NXS on Saturday and Sunday at Reade Range last weekend. Optically, I find it hard to tell the difference when there is as much mirage as we had Friday. There were heavy clouds early on Sunday and the sight picture with the NXS at 42 power was crystal clear. I didn't take the gun with the Comp to the line Sunday so I can't offer a comparison under those optimal conditions.

No, I'm not. I shot the Remington/Bushmaster Long Range Regional last weekend. I'll be on my way to Raton for the Rocky Mountain Palma matches later this month. Maybe some BR shooting next year with the F-Class Worlds behind us. I'm having a 6mm Dasher barrel with a muzzle brake put on one of my F-Open guns and I'd like to give it a try in some 1000 yard BR at Reade and Williamsport.
