newly released BERGER 184 Hybrid (.284)... preliminary load data and results compared to 180 Hybrid

TITO: Thanks. Makes sense.
I’m currently running a .235” freebore with the 184 hybrids. Seating comfortably in front of the “donut” area .... with a modest jump to the lands.

Thanks for the info!

Reamer has been ordered. Now I have to wait until Christmas to get it. Been looking at optics (SB, Kahles, Trijicon, NF and so far undecided). Action and barrel arrived (Defiance/Brux), trigger (Jewell) also is sitting at home waiting for me to start. Just need some time off from work to start machining the gunstock out of the aluminum I got in ebay. Will make a building thread as soon as I start.

Awesome! Good luck with that build!

For optics..... Don’t forget to look at the VORTEX GOLDEN EAGLE .... they are very nice glass ... with good features if you are into F class and Long Range. Look at the ECR-1 reticle.

NF Competition, FCR-1 reticle. I have two. Like them a lot.

My man, that has been one of my top picks!! But I'm curious about the Kahles 10-50. Regarding the S&B the weight just overcomes the features and glass. Looked thru the Trijicon and was ok but if you move a bit the FOV is gone (even at min settings). It takes a lot of fishing to reset your eyes (At least for me). Vortex makes great stuff but sadly my eyes doesn't like them. Had a few PST and a Viper Red Dot. All gone because my eyes hated the illuminated reticles or dots even at minimal power, and when I adjusted the magnification my FOV gets blurry. I have 20/25 vision but I'm extremely sensitive to light.

Depends a little on your parameters (velocity, elevation, conditions, etc.), but most of the normal criteria you will find you need at least 1:8.75 twist

1:8.5 twist does very well. Not sure i’d Use the 1:9 especially with the 184 grain bullets .... you will want the slightly faster twist To stabilize the 184’s.

I Have not run the 1:8 yet ... but It is clearly in the stability envelope. If you have one, I’d shoot it.

BERGER suggests at least 1.8.75 twist
BERGER says the 1:9 is marginal stability (I’d stay away from it)

I’d look for an 1:8.5 or any good barrel between 1:8 to 1.8.5.

Wait a minute!!! You " did ok with the 184's "? Let's see, a 200-22X at 1000 is ok. Oh, I see, your want a 600-60X to do better that OK..

Norm has VERY HIGH expectations. It's a personality trait that should almost be a requirement for any F-Class shooter.

In all other aspects of life, it's simply known as "greed". ;)

Has anyone out there tested primers with these bullets in load development?
Its my untested belief that primers relate more to powder type and quantity than bullet choice - unless you're taking about bullet choice leading to a compressed vs. uncompressed load. I find that Federal 210s do just fine in my 7rsaum with the 184 over h4831sc and OAL of 2.955, but they do better if they are weight sorted.

Dave,
We do have IMR-7828SSC LOAD DATA. However, this is unpublished load data and can only be given out over the phone. Please contact us at 660-460-2802 from 8am to 4:30pm EASTERN TIME MON thru FRI . WE APOLOGIZE FOR THIS INCONVENIENCE.
FYI for all reading this post. If the reloading info you need is not in the BERGER MANUAL VOL.1. Or on the BERGER BULLETS WEBSITE under RELOADING DATA . It is " UNPUBLISHED LOAD DATA" that we can only give out over the phone.

Maybe it's time for an updated manual?
